I am in the process of buying my first home ( early stages) and before getting in touch with an agent, I am curious to
get folks top tips for this working relationship- esp for a first time home buyer.

As a buyer, I would not get committed to a single agent.   If a particular agent has some properties they want to show you, that's fine, take a look at the properties, but do not make any commitment that if and when you purchase you promise it will be through them.
