taxes for out of state rentals
« on: January 30, 2018, 10:59:30 PM »
I live in Hawaii and have rentals in Florida and Hawaii. I am trying to use the 1040.com program. I can't figure out a way to pay state income tax in Colorado for the Colorado rental. The way the program is set up it automatically has me pay Hawaii state income tax on the Colorado rental. Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?

The Florida rental is not an issue because no state income tax in Florida.

I don't know how 1040.com works, sorry. But I do know that multistate returns are one of the things that regularly move you out of handling a return with consumer software.

BTW in the professional tax software space, the "inexpensive" programs that cost only $1000 or $2000 often don't handle multistate returns very well.

Thanks. I think I figured it out. I pretty much have to do it manually by myself. I agree that the software is not helpful.
