We are two years away from retirement and our goal is to move to a smaller community and pay cash for a simple, Mustachian house where we can enjoy our retirement. The 1600 sf house we have lived in for 15 years currently has $80K left on the mortgage and is valued at $380K. It is in a super HOT neighborhood where larger remodeled homes are selling for $600K and up. I have been thinking we could put about $100K into it by updating kitchen, refinishing wood floors, adding master suite and general cosmetic update and possibly come out much better than if we just sell as is. Thoughts?
