Title: Real estate tax reassement question

Hello all,

Real estate assessor form came in saying my rental has 6 bedrooms. Although 2 of the rooms have tiny closets, there are technically 8 bedrooms total. Do I make the corrections and return the form, or do I just leave it as is? I have not altered the house layout in any way. It's just an old house.

Do you want a higher tax assessment? Are you looking to sell?

I appealed my latest tax assessment to get a higher value because we were looking to sell and the assessment was wildly inaccurate.  We had done a complete gut renovation with small addition and none of that was recognized.  I was afraid it might affect sales price or appraisal calculation.

We had received a form in the mail to contact the assessor's office to contest.  I talked with them and emailed photos and a complete list of work completed.  They adjusted the assessment accordingly.

Eh, not really. The tax appraisal values in my area don't really correspond to the market values. I plan on holding the property another 20 years at least. The town does have the finished space square footage spot on, it's just the number of bedrooms which would differ.

So I guess it would make sense not writing anything back?
