My grandma always told me to buy and rent out property. Can you explain the process to a complete beginner?

Step 1: Buy property
Step 2: Rent it out.
Step 3: Profit.

(Yes, we've discovered the elusive "???" step 2.)

In all seriousness, and with all sincerity... no.

This isn't something one can just explain in a short forum post and be done with.

If we had a few hours to sit down and chat, we could maybe scratch the surface.

If you're actually interested, I'd suggest checking out the recommended reading list:
https://forum.mrmoneymustache.com/real-estate-and-landlording/real-estate-book-recommendations/

If it's important to you, reading a book (or three, or ten) on the process shouldn't be a big deal, and you'll want to, whatever other posts happen in this thread or whatever you read over at BP.

We'll be more than happy to answer questions, clear up misconceptions, etc.  But a blanket "explain the process"?

Heh.  Good one.  :)
