Is it just resistance or will they refuse to assist you in purchasing a place that they don't like? Can you afford buying a place without their help? If money is coming with strings attached it is not a pure gift, but more like an investment with certain expectations of control [over your life]. Depending on your family that could be just fine and a non-issue. But for some families it can absolutely destroy your relationships.

Simple solution ... Do your own thing and buy whatever you want without their involvement.
