So the rental agency that manages our second home/beach house rental property, launched an experiment this year. It took about a third of its inventory and made it Sunday check-in, as opposed to the traditional check-in at Saturday at 3 p.m. and checkout the following Saturday at 10 a.m.
Even though my family had owned a home and rented it with this same agency when I was growing up, I decided to give the Sunday check-in a try. (We bought the house last summer). Through the end of March, tihe "Saturday homes" were killing the "Sunday homes" in bookings and I asked to switch. (Since I only had two weekly rentals, both were willing to switch to Saturdays to make the calendar all-Saturday for me.)
One thing I hadn't considered is that if someone is renting a house for Memorial Day or Labor Day week, they probably want to check in on Saturday afternoon, not Sunday afternoon, even though they're staying 7 nights either way. And I would think people driving 4-6 hours to our community (which is typical) would leave at the crack of dawn on Saturday AM, arrive for 3 PM check-in, drive home the following Saturday and have Sunday to recover/get ready for work.
Hopefully I'll have a flood of reservations now that I'm a Saturday. Any thoughts from anyone who rents by the week seasonally?
