Title: Help! I need an unusual type of door latch.
Post by: Dicey on July 03, 2019, 11:35:13 PM
We're almost at the end of a long flip project and we've hit a snag. We have an under the stairs closet (a la Harry Potter) that opens into a narrow hallway. We'd like to figure out way not to need a standard door handle, as it would protrude into the ha,lway, which is the main entryway into the kitchen. It has a standard frame and is only 70" tall. Can anyone think of some kind of pressure/spring lock device? I'm thinking of something that would allow you to push on the door and have it spring open so no handle is needed. Does such a thing exist? Google isn't much help, but that's probably because I'm not using the right keywords. Thanks!

Do you mean a touch release catch, like on kitchen cabinets?  They are made in heavier gauges:

The other thing to do would be to put a cut-out in the door so that you put your hand through to lift up a latch that's on the other side.

An alternative to the touch release latch, would be a flush door latch

Something like this:

Thanks for the assists, @former player and @Friar! The Saint Louis Designs option was sweet, but $150. Great for a Lear Jet, but too rich for this project. The Amazon link led to something that will work for $13.50. Boom! Ordered. Thank you for steering me in the right direction! I love this community!
