I see no reason why you couldn’t take 100-150k for real estate.

You have to ask yourself the why.  Do you like real estate? Do you want to be a landlord? Are you reasonably handy? Not that you have to do the work, but you should know what’s involved so you can figure out reasonable quotes on work.

Or are you just looking for a place to park your cash?

What’s the end goal here?

I'd like to know more about your VC investments. That seems a lot riskier than buying real estate.

Based upon your savings, investments and salary, there is no reason to shy away from a $100-150K investment in multifamily real estate.  Assuming you have done your homework and know how to analyze a deal, RE can be a great investment that rivals/beats, and diversifies from index fund investing.

If you don't mind me asking, what is your profession/job? $250k is very rare for people in 20s.

@Papa bear - I would like to pursue a long-term investment strategy where I purchase a new property every couple of years here in Arizona. I am afraid to use leverage in the stock market, but okay with using it if it’s tied to a physical asset like real estate

@Dicey - I invested in three start-ups via family / friend round. I see these investments as very risky and I am not expecting any near term return here

@FamilyGuy - I’m a developer at a medium sized tech company

How long do you wish your holding period to be?
