For Aussies - What's with BankWest mortgages?
« on: August 30, 2016, 06:44:51 AM »
I *FINALLY * managed to get on to someone at Bankwest to ask about my mortgage interest rate since the RBA cut rates recently, and I felt like they genuinely didn't care to keep my business.  When I did the same thing with NAB a few months ago for another property they just about fell over themselves to make sure I stayed as a customer, but Bankwest just didn't seem to care!  I'm paying 1.2% above their advertised rate, and yet they want me to pay an additional $90 as a one-off fee and then a monthly $12 account keeping fee to change me to another loan product :s  Grizzle.

I'd say just switch? Sounds like they don't want your business!

All the lenders are quietly trying to hang onto their interest rate margins.

I'm surprised it doesn't show you the rate on your internet login?

I read it as OP was contacting them to ask them to lower their rate after the RBA cut. Not that OP didn't know the rate.

I rang to ask whether they'd like to hang on to my business by lowering their rate, since it keeps going up and never comes down.

What's your total balance? The Bank staff would have the ability to give larger discounts depending on how much lending you have with them...

I refinanced a little while back and when i checked rates BWest were nowhere near the best.

Ended up with Click loans and am paying 3.74% but there are others that are around this or even less - eg U Bank (3.64% for a no frills loan).

I would take my business elsewhere if I was you or perhaps consider rocking up to a local BWest branch and having a face-to-face with the manager and seeing if they are more responsive.
