Title: Buying a home post-FIRE
Post by: redbird on May 20, 2015, 06:49:45 AM
Could anyone point me to some good articles or advice for buying a home post-FIRE?

For my situation, I am FIRE in 4 months. I currently live overseas, will be moving back to the United States at the same time I FIRE. Since it has been 6 years since I've lived in the mainland US, and I don't currently own a home there, I will be renting for a short period (maybe a year?) at first to find the exact area I'd like to be in and of course do home shopping. I have enough to buy a house in cash, but I may want to take out a mortgage depending on the exact mortgage rate I can get and, of course, depending on how returns on the investments are doing at the time. If my money is better off sitting in the stock market than paying off the mortgage immediately, I may as well take advantage of that.

I am looking for advice on getting a mortgage post-FIRE. How hard will it be? I won't have job income anymore, just my stash + passive income. If there is already advice out there, you can just point me there if you'd like instead of typing up something new. I just don't know where to look. Thanks!
