Cost of our house vs. Rental

Seems like housing is overpriced in Canada.  Especially if you have to pay such a premium to own. I would definitely rent and save the extra money.  I would only buy if you were trying to settled down in a family home and renting was more expensive.

We purchased in a high col city in the us but renting was roughly the same amount per month as owning, if not a little more.  Whereas when we lived in ny we rented because owning was a rip off.

I was comparing renting a similar house, so it'd be about the same I think.

Also I think costs get so much higher as well because we renovated here, would not have done that in a rental. Yes, the renos should make our purchase price go up and hope gets us overall better value, but that's to be determined.

Our next house we plan to live in long term - 20 plus years. I want to take me time to find the perfect house, especially as they are forecasting housing declines in Alberta with the decrease in oil prices, I'd kind of like to wait it out and see if they do the 10% drop they are forecasting!
