Which ride tracking software do you use and/or recommend?
« on: August 23, 2019, 11:24:17 AM »
So I'm thinking about beginning to use one of these apps to track my ride and I'm looking for reader recommendations to narrow down the pros and cons. Please elaborate in the comments!

I like Strava. I've been using it for seven years now, and I find it easy to use.

Everyone I know who tracks data is on Strava. Some of them use the other apps too, but Strava is everyone's default site.

I use strava.  All my ride and run data automatically upload.  Good way to look back for week to week comparison in my training.  Also has good segments/KOM stuff.  No complaints.

Seems like Strava has the firm lead. Any downsides to their service (I presume other than ads)?

They have ads? I never see them if they do, because I use an adblocker.

No downsides for me. I was using Garmin Connect for a while, in addition to Strava. I forget why I signed up for it, but I found their site to be buggy, and gave up on it after a few months.

There are a lot of apps available for use with Strava. I use Elevate for Strava, which displays nice graphs showing current and historic fitness level, etc.

Everyone I know uses Strava as well. There aren't any ads, premium users just get a few extra perks, such as setting weekly, monthly and yearly mileage goals, seeing heart rate zones from every ride, etc. The only downside to any ride tracking app for your phone is the accuracy of elevation gain and distance, especially when used for off-pavement riding. This may or may not be important to you. I use a cycling computer with a barometric altimeter because the inaccuracies drove me nuts - and I deserve every face-punch I get for having this fancy-pants technology!

Thanks everyone for the replies! Without a counterargument or even a countervote (thus far), Strava's dominance in the MMM community will be n+1, since I have just installed the app.
