Which Chase CC to apply for next?
« on: June 21, 2019, 07:52:51 PM »
We are currently at 2/24 with Chase. The last credit cards we applied for are:

Dec 9, 2018 - Chase Southwest Priority & Chase Southwest Business (business cards don't count towards 5/24, right?)
Jan 30, 2019 - Chase Sapphire Reserve

I have some big spends coming up so would like to apply for 1-2 Chase credit cards. I am thinking it might be best to concentrate on business cards first as they don't count towards 5/24? Considering the Chase Ink Business Preferred (with a sweet 80k bonus points) but open to suggestions. Our focus is on travel rewards and we are willing to pay annual fees if we feel the perks are worth it.

Ultimately, we would like to end up with a nice array of Chase credit cards to maximize spending bonuses. However, we do also want to be cautious as we don't want to get shut down. We currently have 7 personal cards including Chase Hyatt, Chase IHG and Chase Freedom. I am considering canceling two of our personal cards that we don't use. DH kept them around thinking of selling tradelines but I really don't want to risk a Chase shutdown so we will just use other banks for tradelines.

Also - would it be OK to apply for two Chase CCs - maybe one personal and one business on the same day like we did in December or just do it one at a time? At this rate, it will take until the end of the year or even 2020 to hit 5/24! If we do two, I think I would go with:
- Chase Ink Business Preferred (80k bonus points)
- another personal card? which one?

Any suggestions?

Chase Marriot biz and then Chase Marriott personal? Combine the points for a Marriott week long resort stay.

You can spread your credit limit too thin with any bank. Having 5 personal Chase cards is pushing it.

I'm sticking with business cards mostly to avoid going over 5/24.

I have both business and personal SW Chase cards which earned Companion Pass.

Then I applied for Chase Ink Business Preferred and got the 80K
Then Barclay Arrival personal which netted $700.
I'm on my 2nd Chase Ink Business Preferred and got 20K for a self-referral from the first one.

The key is to wait 3 months between Chase Ink business cards, I think. I know someone who has 5 of them.

I'm at 2/24 and have been rolling along since November.

@Bacchi the too much credit part has certainly become an issue :( @Saving in Austin That is pretty impressive!!

So - we ended up applying for the Chase Ink Business Preferred.  Just got denied for having too much credit with them :( So next step is to call recon and see if we can shift some credit around. I know you can no longer shift credit from a personal card to a business card - so got to check to see of our credit limit on the SW Business is high enough to make this offer. At this point, I'd be more than happy to cancel the SW Business so we can get the Ink Business Preferred.

Hmmm...maybe I should use the SW Business for 1-2 small purchases today. I actually only used it for a little bit to earn the bonus back in Jan/Feb and haven't used it since.

One key to getting a new business card from Chase is to lower the existing credit limits on your current Chase business cards before applying.

I just applied for Business Ink Unlimited and Chase says they need time to review my application. I just saw the post above suggest lowering the credit limit of my existing chase business card (which is currently $22k) but I did not do this before applying. Should I call the reconsideration line? Or wait? Or lower my existing card limit right now? Time is of the essence because I want to start spending on this card in a couple weeks.

If you're over 5/24, there's no hope.

If you're not, call recon. Find out why you've been denied. Offer to move credit around if needed.

To be clear, I don't yet know if I was denied or not -- chase website said they need time to review my application and make a decision. I'd like to be proactive since time is tight and offer to move credit around. I am not over 5/24. Should I call recon line on Monday, or the number on the back of my existing card?

Post when you get word - I applied for the same card last week and am awaiting their review as well. I'll probably contact them in a few days if I haven't heard anything, since I would like to get the card in time for Amazon's sale later this month.

You have a real business, right? Not some faux "selling things on ebay" business that has no revenue yet?

A "review" is usually a denial. Call the Chase application status number (for business cards).

If they truly need to ask you questions, such as about your business or income, then you can answer their questions immediately instead of waiting for the letter. If you've been denied, you can call recon.

I called Chase today and they said the cards are approved, and I had them add rush shipping!

And yep, it's a real business.

Thanks all.

If you're planning on doing any status at hotels get the Hyatt card, and if you plan to do any MS on the cards get the Freedom Unlimited as it's the only real unlimited multiplier.

If you have a way to do large travel / restaurant organic or MS spend then CSR will likely work out nice for you as there's no cap on those multiplier categories.

If you use airport lounges much and value those perks the CSR also comes with the better priority pass.

I do quite a bit of MS and have Chase CSR / FU / Hyatt / IHG but don't care about Southwest or Marriott personally. I have Hilton status via the AMEX Hilton.

We discuss this at length in my groups if MS is your thing.

I called today and found that I was denied for the Chase Ink Preferred. They need proof of business, but most of the things they are asking for require that I be in business long enough to file taxes. I only formed this business a month ago, and it is a sole proprietorship. They wouldn't accept a business license from my county as proof of business.

That's a shame, since that also means I won't be able to get the companion pass from Southwest via use of their business card.

Any suggestions?

If you're in a state that you can get a filing / business registration from your secretary of state you can send that in most likely.

Unfortunately, the only business entities that have to register with the state are LLCs, partnerships, and corporations. Sole proprietors don't, which was actually why I went with that option for my first year. It prevented me from paying a $300 fee, which I didn't want to commit to until I had a year or two of business and knew if I wanted to continue.

I've gotten a few Chase business cards without requiring any additional documentation. It has been 6 months so it might be possible they have more stringent criteria.

Some advice from here and other churning sites:
I used my name as the business name and my SSN. I got the initial pop-up of the application going to review for all 5-6. I didn't call recon, just waited. Around 3-4 weeks later my cards just appeared in my mailbox. I feel like if you call recon they ask for more documentation whereas if you just wait it will likely go through.

Quick question: If you're an authorized user on a spouses credit card, how does one link this card to their online account to view transactions? Thanks.

Which credit card company?  They have varying levels of access given to authorized users.  Usually business cards will give more access because they consider authorized user cards as "employee" cards.

Chase. It appears as though there is no way to do this with personal cards, but like you said, I can do this with our business cards. Somewhat annoying.

Can you just use your spouse's login?
