Same, Harcore History is just really REALLY good, + Tim Ferris, and BiggerPockets are probably my top 3. I like variety.

I listen to a lot of the above, but my recent favorite has been Mystery Show.  Fantastic show from Gimlet (makers of Start Up and Reply All) where Starlee Kine (This American Life alum) solves everyday sort of mysteries while getting side tracked on beautiful tangents.  It is a new show (only 4 episodes so far), but I have loved each and every one of them.  Definitely listen in order, as I think each new one is better than the last.

I also really enjoy the follow:
Radiolab
Mystery Palace
Startup
Replay All
Planet Money
Serial
Invisibilia

The survival podcast. Its pretty all over the place on content, in a good way. Focuses mainly on living a good life. Not for someone who wants paranoid ramblings, you won't find that there.

Katy's Says Podcast - body alignment, movement/exercise, etc.

Explain Things to Me - talks with interesting people who specialize in interesting fields, made by some talented and funny YouTube people who aren't afraid to admit they don't know something

Radical Personal Finance

Radiolab

Root Simple Podcast - DIY, low tech home ec, homesteading, etc.

The Moth

20 Min Yoga Sessions from YogaDownload.com - great if you don't have time/money for classes and has a huge variety of sessions

Just subscribed to Dear Hank and John, made by the vlogbrothers of YouTube, which I hear is very good.

So many great recommendations! One that I don't think anyone mentioned that I like a lot is Futility Closet, which explores historical mysteries and oddities. Each episode ends with a lateral thinking puzzle, which is pretty fun.

I just started with podcasts and the only one I've tried so far is This Week in Science. Loved it! LED camouflage, the brains of birds that can talk, how worms find "down", and kangaroo handed-ness: and that was just one episode!

I wish had some * female focused* podcasts I liked.

+1 -- They are so few and far between! Somebody hook us up.

There's "Stuff Your Mom Never Told You". It's made by the same "Stuff You Should Know" people... but it's focused on lady-topics.

Some of them are pretty interesting.

The Broad Experience

It's brilliant. I usually listen to it upon release and then hit replay immediately. Then I make the rest of the household listen to it.

PersonalityHacker.com's podcast.

I think they offer a good way into the MBTI personality type subject matter and handle widely ranging topics for personal development (using MBTI as a base, but also venturing into other areas). It has helped me a lot with understanding of my own thought processes as they answer a lot of questions I still had after reading up on MBTI.

I know the basis for MBTI is questionable, but as someone once said "If it helps you, then it is most likely good for you".

You might want to try "Call your Girlfriend".  Two others that I think have been mentioned are the Slate DoubleX Podcast and Stuff Mom Never Told You.  Also Stuff you Missed in History isn't specifically female focused - but the two hosts are both women and they cover diverse topics including historical ladies.

You are not so smart - David McRaney - Basically a series of podcasts about self delusion psychology (sounds boring, but is fascinating), as a bonus he tries a different cookie recipe each show (his first book of the same is also excellent).

Conversations - ABC radio (Australia) - literally what it says, the host sits down with a random interesting person and talks to them for an hour. I was amazed how interesting an ant scientist is, or political chiefs of staff or WW1 historians etc.

Skeptoid - Myth debunking.

I really like "The Money-Guy Show" podcast from Brian Preston and Bo Hanson.  They have new episodes bi-weekly and they're usually about 45 minutes long.  My commute is about 45 minutes so it's perfect.

So I listened to the most recent FI-oriented radical personal finance on a 90-minute drive between cities last night and I liked it enough but wasn't amazed. It seems like the organization of the site is poor. Does anyone have a few favorite episodes that I can check out to get more of a feel for things, or should I just manually comb through the post history?

Not really.  It's pretty random, so you have to scan through for interesting topics, and even then it can be hit or miss.  A fair amount of rambling, and targeted towards the lower level of knowledge--good for beginners, so I do recommend it to certain people, but IDK that you'd get much out of it with your level of expertise.

Haha, that's hilarious coming from a guy who was on the show twice!

arebelspy -- can you let me know what a more advanced personal finance podcast would be? I would love to go deeper, but for whatever reason, the day Joshua decided to take his show/business more seriously was the day he stopped regularly producing content.

And grantmeaname, to answer your question, he hasn't tagged his old shows, so you'd have to browse to find a topic you are interested in. Some of them I consider to be quite in depth, like the series on understanding life insurance or on tax avoidance.

Hello Internet, featuring two of my favorite YouTubers: CGP Grey and Brady Haran. You can tell that they are good friends, yet their personalities and worldviews are sufficiently different that it provokes some really interesting discussions.

The Incomparable, to get my fill of nerdy pop culture discussion

Planet Money, for bite-sized economics stories

I listen to others, but those are three I would recommend to anyone.

I used to listen to a podcast about what if's in history. It's been so long since I listed to it though that I can't remember the name of it. Oh well. There's lots of good recommendations on here. I might browse through them and see if I can't find something to tickle my fancy.

There are a ton of great podcasts out there, and many, many terrible ones.

Here are the ones that have been consistently high-quality:
Radiolab
This American Life
Mystery Show
Startup
Reply All
Freakonomics
The Moth
Love + Radio
Serial

These are more hit or miss but can be very interesting:
Question of the Day
Here's the Thing with Alec Baldwin

Apparently I need to mix in more FI/investment options!

I used to drive all day for work and should've been listening to podcasts.  Now that I can't drive, it's weird sitting still and just listening (I would prefer reading) but I might try them at night to help me fall asleep.  So I'm starting with the first season of Serial.

Try the Money Guy.  Comes out every 2 weeks, 45-50 mins.  It's a little more on the level of many posters on this board (I.E. asset allocation instead of "pay your credit card debt") than other financial podcasts I've tried.

Other than that, I listen to the previous day's Marketplace while exercising in the morning.

KQED's Forum, a San Francisco based show with Michael Krasny is my all-time favourite. Intelligent conversation with at least two experts in the field on each show. An hour long with the last half phone-in.

This week's episode is on De-Cluttering

I like the All Songs Considered NPR podcast.  Usually some music out of my usual line up, but generally interesting.

Added Clark Howard since they took him off the radio here and Star Talk recently, but have not listened to it much yet.

My top 4 are

Tim Ferriss show
Radical Personal Finance
You Are Not Smart
Art of Charm

I would listen to more but I just don't have the time or patience. If I had to choose one I would listen to Tim Ferriss, he is a great interviewer and has absolutely fascinating guests.

Repeating what many have mentioned...

Radiolab is my all time favorite.  I try to explain it to people "they pick one topic, like sleep or love and come at it from interesting angles, then they interview experts and do trippy things with the sound editing..."  Yeah, I'm probably not upping their listening base with that endorsement.

This American Life is my second favorite.  I tried to submit a story idea to them, but alack alas, they did not contact me :(

I loved Serial, but I'm not as excited for the second season.  I feel like Making a Murderer was the second season of Serial ...

I like The Moth, but it's hit or miss.

And I tried listening to Radical Personal Finance, I really did (isn't the host on here?  sorry man...) but it was just too rambling, not enough guests to mix it up.

I always get disappointed when I download a bunch of episodes of a new (to me) podcast for a road trip and then I don't like them.  We listened to Welcome to Nightvale in the creepy areas of New Mexico and Arizona (you know where I'm talkin bout) but I kept wanting it to have an overarching story line, and it didn't.  I like the concept though.

I like Wait Wait Don't Tell Me and Car Talk, but I hardly think of them as podcasts since I usually catch them live. (aww, except its all reruns of cartalk now... rip)  I really wish my local public radio station had more programming and less classical.  Saturday and Sunday mornings and afternoons had the best programming with my home stations in IL and CT.

I'm mostly rambling on here so I can follow this thread and keep getting suggestions for new ones.

I love the Moth and Snap Judgement for storytelling. However, I can't listen to them at work or when I need to maintain my composure. I've definitely faced the situation where a Moth episode is unexpectedly rip-your-heart-out-and-stomp-on-it sad... but I have to finish the episode! I just pretend my sniffles are due to allergies... not a podcast making me cry at work. lol.

Some awesome suggestions in the list, thanks.

I have recently been obsessed with "The Expat Chat". It only started in October but with almost daily episodes, there are a lot of them. It's really, really good.

For those a fan of Serial Season 1, I would also recommend "Undisclosed". It focus on the legal aspects of the Adnan case, it's very interesting.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
