Toshl finance - an alternative to mint.com
« on: November 16, 2012, 01:58:52 AM »
Some of you might already know about this, but it may be new to some of you so here it goes:

Toshl Finance is a personal finance tracking application (online + smart phone) that tracks your income, expenses and allows you to set budgets for specific tags.

It has a really neat interface, but what I love about it the most, and what I think Mustachians will like about it, is the fact that it encourages you to spend less. An added bonus is the "shame" you feel when you enter an expense that is embarrassing, but you know it must be tracked.

It is also a viable alternative to mint.com for us non-US (or Canada) users.

If you can't use (or are too paranoid to) mint I encourage you to give it a try!

That looks neat.  Thanks for suggesting it.  I've been using the Pear Budget spreadsheet (https://pearbudget.com/spreadsheet) which seems to do the same thing as Toshl without the nice visuals and reminders.

Interesting - has that twitter bootstrap hipster web 3.0 feel, and the UI seems sleek.

I don't like how quickly the free features became limiting, the many pitches to "go pro", and the ongoing subscription pricing structure.

It does look interesting, but I think I will stick with YNAB (YouNeedABudget) for my budgeting needs.

I must admit that the "go pro" features do look tempting. I have been using it for about 6 months now and I still haven't made the plunge, I have found a way to avoid it. For instance, instead of adding several incomes (only one income per month is supported in the free version) I just edit the original one.

That being said the "go pro" charts, email reports, multiple budget support etc. really do look intreaguing :)
