It always makes me shudder how the happy hippy left-wing eco-propaganda seems to monopolize the idea of anti-materialism and anti-consumerism for its own purposes. For me, the reason to be anti-materialist and anti-consumerist is simply personal freedom, not supporting some utopian leftist eco-bullshit. If the "community" and "mother earth" benefit from my own abstinence, these are just some side effects, not anything that I'm concerned about or would preach to others. In fact, preaching the eco-religion of self-deprivation or sacrifice for social welfare is just another way to control other people's minds - far away from the concept of a free thinking individual.

Or, you know, maybe those people who care about others and the environment don't go in for materialism because they are free-thinking individuals.

I'm using my freedom of thought to judge you as a real jerk right now.  Just a nice side effect of critical thought.

Thanks for posting this. I really enjoyed the video. It describes a need for "retail therapy" to be a sign of insecurity.  I haven't thought of this before but it makes sense.  This quick fix method to short term happiness has large impacts in the long run both environmentally and for the purchasers well being.

Yeah, you are welcome. As long as you don't make me sing along and socialize with those caring people.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
