Slickdeals
« on: April 26, 2014, 01:27:25 PM »
I don't know how many people in the MMM community use this, but it's a great resource for finding deals online.  You can set up alerts (similar to camelcamelcamel) so that you'll receive an email or text when something that interests you is on sale.

It's great, especially for bulk buying. I buy certain products (soap, etc) from Amazon on subscribe and save, and stock up whenever the price hits a certain low point.  It's really useful, especially as prices on amazon, especially, fluctuate daily.

I used to use SlickDeals a lot back in 2004-2005 or so.

Nowadays I find that sites like that just don't have anything that interests me, I so rarely buy things.  And for many people I think it may cause them to buy more than they might otherwise.

The idea of setting up alerts for specific items you'd be buying anyways (household items you know go on sale, but you don't know when) is interesting though.  Thanks for the tip!

Funny, I just went there today for the first time in a while.  I used to go and spend money on good deals for crap I didn't really need.  It might still have that effect if I went daily.  On the other hand, if you know you need something soon (or planning ahead) I agree with setting up alerts or checking for good deals happening know.

I used to go and spend money on good deals for crap I didn't really need.

I did this a few times when I first found out about Slickdeals.  Then I found out about the alert function, and I used it to buy a 28-piece Tupperware set for $8 (which I actually needed).  Then I just continued with the alerts (both on slickdeals and camelcamelcamel) for stuff I purchase regularly or have my eye on, like Dr. Bronner's, dog food, soap, etc.

Then I forced myself to stop visiting all the online shopping sites, which is where I do 95% of my shopping.  Worked for me! :)
