Well - looks like it's time to shop for a new dishwasher (thank goodness we're not hosting parties these holidays!!!). Any advice/tips on what to look for?
I was originally thinking of ordering from Costco (in Canada if that makes a difference), but now am rethinking that in favor of Lowes/Best Buy or local furniture /appliance stores. Free delivery would be nuce although I guess we could just drive our minivan wherever since it's not that big. Free haulaway would be nice although I might try selling/giving to someone who'd like to try repairing it. I don't think the repair would be that difficult since the only issue is a leak but we were told it's pretty old (7-10 yrs) for it to be worth paying min $100 to a repair guy. I already bought and replaced the door seal ($20) and it hasn't solved the issue. My BIL has offered to do the install for us.
We've had two dishwashers in the past 16/17 years (the first was still working when we sold it in favor of a matching set) and only started using it daily in the past year or so. I grew up handwashing so sometimes still don't feel very experienced with it.
We've always bought the basic, entry level dishwashers (i.e. the cheapest) and have had clean dishes although now I am thinking of taking it one tiny step up. I do love the idea of a 3rd rack. But don't think I can stomach $700-800 for a fancier model. Maybe one step above the cheapest for a few extra features?
We mostly rinse dishes first, we don't care about the noise level, more capacity would be nice. DH worries about soap residue so we always use High Temp followed by an extra rinse cycle in the morning so a sani-rinse cycle sounds intriguing.
We do expect to use it daily for the forseeable future.
