Title: How to save 40% on Cox cable/internet

When you're a new Cox customer you're given a promo discount rate. Once that promo runs out, your rate is automatically increased. This thread applies to anyone who has an expired promo rate and is now paying out the nose for internet/cable.

The link below shows current standard vs. promo pricing. To achieve these promo rates follow the steps below.

1. Call Cox main customer service line 1-877-206-4210
2. Menu option 1 to confirm phone# of the account
3. Menu option 5 to downgrade service
4. Get on phone with rep and say you want to schedule a disconnect. You will need your 4 digit PIN or last 4 of account holder's social. Schedule the disconnect around 2 weeks from now so there is no disruption in service.
5. Wait 15-20 minutes for the disconnect work order to go through. It will appear on your account and you will receive a confirmation email.
6. Call 1-877-267-2856 and ask rep about promo rates now that you have a disconnect request open* (https://www.cox.com/residential/special-offers/come-back.html?sc_id=ph_aff_z_z&clickref=1011l5Zbr4VF). The person I talked to was really nice and went through all the promo rates and speeds with me. I don't have an extension but the reps on this line are generally very good and not pushy.
7. Select the package you want and the rep will set you up with the new promo rate in a few minutes.
8. Thank rep for their help, offer to help with any customer satisfaction surveys, and enjoy lighthearted conversation as your savings are processed.

My bill went from $84/mo to $60/mo. 40% savings off retail or $288 annually.

That's cool your able to get the promo w/o disconnecting. I have comcast internet and normally cancel, wait a few days and sign back up with new promo, right now I'm paying $20 a month for about 30 mbps down.

I actually just downgraded my plan again to 50 mbps and lowered my bill to $40/month. Haven't noticed any drop in internet performance.
