Replace Stroller Wheels
« on: April 05, 2017, 12:39:28 PM »
I'd like to replace my stroller wheels with something a little more substantial. Sidewalks near me are bad/not there so I need something that can work over poorly paved roads. It looks like I can just remove a pin and pop the wheels out no problem. Any ideas on where to get something a decent quality with a similar pin-type mechanism? These are the 'steering' wheels so they need to be able to rotate freely.

have you looked into getting a more robust stroller? this question seems like "I want to take my Prius mudding but I want to get bigger tires...."

I agree - most strollers aren't made to be upgraded like that.  I'm picturing your wheels as being about 6 inch diameter?  You can try to search Ebay for "replacement stroller wheels".  Also, you may be able to get a jogging stroller on Craigslist.

2nd the suggestion for cheap jogging stroller. If you are just walking and have a place to park it, a cheap jogging stroller is great. (For actually JOGGING, you need a pricey one.) We used ours for years.

I really don't want to get a whole new one. My problem is that it's getting caught on things like the cracks on the curb into a store and it gets stuck on the elevator door space at our doctor. I'm not really doing much walking around with it to justify getting a whole new thing. It's really a nice one, just without decent wheels. A jogging stroller seems like overkill.

Sounds like you need to learn how to pop it up so it doesn't get caught in those things. It sounds like you're using an umbrella stroller, which the point of is the compactness, not ruggedness.

We bought a used off-road jogging stroller with three 18" diameter wheels on it at a garage sale for $5. We used it a lot more than our $100+ stroller that we first bought with the small wheels. Ours was the same as the attached picture but didn't have the sun shield attachment with it. The other advantage is the kids rode in it until they were each around 4 years old and could walk longer distances on their own.
