Nice Leather Couch?
« on: February 07, 2021, 10:25:44 PM »
Hey!

In the market for 2 new couches. We like minimalist design (e.g. Burrough, west elm, Article, etc).

We bought an Article couch in the past and while it’s been fine, hasn’t held up the best.

We want leather as we have dogs and they are easier to clean.

Any recommendations of leather couches that have held up well?

I have no idea of the brand of ours, but we got it from a thrift shop.  $120 delivered.  And it is comfortable and easy to maintain.

Ekornes make some nice furniture, if you like their style - https://shop.stressless.com/en/c/sofas

They offer different grades of leather, and will only warranty against pet damage up to a certain grade.

Our Pottery Barn leather couch has been an excellent choice.

Bought 10 years ago and very little wear and tear. Dark colors are better for pets and scratch damage.

This is a "buy it for life" product. So it ain't cheap, but you'll probably die before it does. My kind of purchase.

Sometimes you can get these on Craigslist, but they go real fast.

Be careful when shopping for leather.  A lot of fake bonded leather is sold as though it was real leather - it's not, and it won't hold up.  Full grain, or top grain leather will last forever though.

Look at Bradington Young and Hancock and Moore. They are tres cher brand new but are available used for under 1000. If you want a couch that will last you forever get a high end one used and get an upholstery job for it. Ekornes is great quality. If the maker has a store in a mall or a high end website you are most likely paying a lot of money for a low to medium quality product.

Bought a Flexsteel leather couch about 10 years ago and has held up well. Not cheap, I think it was about $2200 at the time.
