New Sale at Capitol One-Until July 3
« on: June 30, 2014, 07:22:01 AM »
If you have been considering opening an account at Capitol One, now might be a good time.  Here is what they are offering:

Sound the horns, blare the trumpets – our Financial Independence Days Sale is here. Check out these sizzling offers now until July 3rd:

Banking:
•    Share what financial independence means to you for a shot at 10 daily $1,776 prizes (now through July 3rd).
•    Share the savings (and the love) and get $40 for each friend you refer who opens a Capital One 360® account.
•    Earn $100 when you open a 360 Checking® account.
•    Grab $76 when you open a 360 Savings® account.
•    Enjoy up to $1,776 off closing costs on your new mortgage.
•    Small business owners: swipe $7,600 in the first 76 days, get $176 with Spark Pay℠.
Investing:
•    Get up to $1,076 when you fund a Capital One® ShareBuilder® investment account.

I have been very happy with Capitol One.  You may find slightly higher rates elsewhere, but I like Cap One's customer service and flexibility.

If you are inclined to use a referral code, here is mine:  https://r.capitalone360.com/RT88UFGSfy  (I would receive $40 if you use my code.  You will receive $176 if you open both a Checking and a Savings account.)  Thanks for the consideration.

I opened up savings accounts for my wife, son, and daughter PLUS a checking account for myself PLUS an investment account for myself during their big "sale" last Thanksgiving. I think I netted around $600 for a minimal amount of work. It's a great deal, on par with credit card bonuses. I'm thinking about another checking account for my wife for the extra 100 bucks. CapitalOne does have a great website and I've been very happy with my accounts there.

I don't normally click on the ads that show up in Mint, but felt this one was too good to pass up.  Between now and July 3th, if you deposit a minimum of $500 into a new Capital One 360 Savings account you will receive a $75 bonus and after 30 days you can do what you want with it.  That's like a 15% ROI, which always looks nice to me.

I just signed up and so did my wife.  In addition, there is a $40 bonus for each referral you receive (totally didn't realize until after both of us signed up without referring).  I figured I would provide my referral link and then if/once you use it then reply with your own referral link for the next person in line so we all get an additional $40.

Here's mine: https://r.capitalone360.com/uuWo3e5ffx

If you like that, you should do some googling (in this forum and elsewhere on the interwebs) for credit card and bank account churning.  What you are describing is just the tip of the iceberg.

I know all about the credit card churning (just doing my Chase Freedom for $200 bonus right now), but haven't seen much, if any, bank account bonuses.  I'm always one to take up a deal if it is available though.

Check out Chase they usually have a $200 bonus for 6 months of direct deposits.  If you have a lot of cash they have like a $500 or $600 bonus if you deposit something like 10k or 15k and leave it for 3 months.

Santander gives you $20/mo just for having $1500 in direct deposits and 2 bill pays a month.  There is no requirement for the length of time the money has to be in there.

Make sure you have a free account like CapOne or Schwab to suck the money out.  Otherwise you'll pay a ton of fees "pushing" money out of these accounts.  They'll do everything they can to get that bonus money back.

They actually have an Independence Day deal on right now at Cap One, $76 for savings & $100 for Checking. And it's one of the rare checking bonuses that doesn't require direct deposit. But remember that bank account bonuses are taxable while CC ones are not. I usually get 2-3 of them per year!

Yeah, that's the deal I was referencing in my post.  Thanks for pointing out that it is taxable as I was not aware!

Check Nerdwallet and some of the other sites by googling bank account bonuses.  Between my wife and I, we've already cleared over a grand this year in bank account sign up bonuses alone.  Most of them require direct deposit, though (I don't know what my HR department must think of me with the number of times I've switched accounts).  The credit card rewards are more lucrative plus they are tax free, but I take everything I can get.

Weird--seems like several folks did not read the first post on this thread--in which I described the Cap One sale.  (Two people later announced the same sale--??)

This makes me wonder if my referral code was skipped, so I offer it again:
https://r.capitalone360.com/RT88UFGSfy

As I said earlier, I have enjoyed having some accounts with Cap One.

It looks that way because I had created my own thread in the General Discussion as I didn't see yours in Reader Recommendations so a mod joined our 2 threads.  Once somebody uses your referral I will post mine again and we will continue to go down the list that way so everybody could get some bonus money.

OK--sorry, I didn't know that a second thread had been merged with this one.  Thanks for the explanation.

Don't currently use a savings account anywhere...as my emergency fund is invested. But I couldn't pass up the money! $192 after signing up my wife as well and referring her. Not bad for about 10 minutes of work.

I'm surprised more people haven't taken advantage of the deal.  Maybe they already have Capital One 360 accounts.  If not, it isn't too late!  My referral  code is https://r.capitalone360.com/uuWo3e5ffx

Enjoy the free money!

I wonder if I was the only person to take advantage of this on the forum?

Ended up with $232 after opening an account for myself, referring and opening an account for my wife, and referring my brother. Not bad :)

I was almost completely off the forum over the holiday weekend, otherwise I likely would've done this. I guess I'll wait for the next "special". Any ideas when that might be?

Sorry you missed the chance for extra cheddar, Cheddar.

There's no info on the website about another sale.  Maybe there will be on for Labor Day?

One of us, I'm sure, will post the info as soon as we hear about it.  (They e-mail all the account holders.)
