Ego Electric Mower--generic batteries?

I’m struggling because warranties take forever to fulfill typically, and I can’t not mow the lawn for 6 weeks while they mill over their decision. I was trying to make it to the end of the season, but I don’t think I’ll be able to.

I don't really.  There are people that mow their own lawns but I don't know them.  It might be a bit awkward, "Hey! Nice to meet you, I live down the street, can I borrow your mower?".

Sorry about your experience with Ego. I've had one great experience with them where they replaced a refurbished battery for me under warranty with no fuss.

I don't think you ever mentioned what voltage your mower is.  My Internet sleuthing shows that most EGO stuff is 56V (unlike Greenworks' disaster of 24V, 40V, 60V, and 80V products) so must be that?

I can mow a 7000 square foot lot, about 4,000 square feet of grass (0.09 acres) with one 80V 2.0Ah (160Wh) battery and have never had it die.  Your 2*7.5Ah and 2*3.5Ah of batteries is 1232Wh.  Even allowing the triple yard size and possibly self-propelled, something is wrong with your mower.

Hm. You must keep your grass extremely short, extremely dry and your blades extremely sharp.

I cut about 0.16 acre of grass and it usually uses about a nominal 350Wh of battery. Twice the energy for 1/6th of the area.

I just fixed my post to say 0.09 acres instead of 0.9 acres.  So we are about the same on energy required.

This was my point earlier in the thread. If this is someone’s first experience with heavy-ish duty electrically driven mechanical things, it’ll be pretty a pretty intense deterrent. I can’t imagine how pissed off I’d be if I bought a 40k EV with a 300 mile range and it couldn’t make it out of my neighborhood after 2 years. I just naturally figured that my next car would be an EV but I’m not so sure at the moment.

In other news, my warranty battery arrives this week. I’m curious to see how it does. I mowed Saturday and was able to do the whole lawn on two charges by raising the blade to the top of the range (and barely skimming the grass, really),  taking out the mulching plug and tying the little trap door at the back open. It spit out unmulched blades at my ankles but at least I managed to cut the taller weeds down so they don’t block my fescue.

I just ordered a new one for our new assignment, we have a flat yard conducive for push reel mowing.

Battery / cordless electric {most anything} is a pet peeve (but 'pet peeve' sounds to cute to convey my angst!) of mine.
I ABHORE (with a smoldering passion) proprietary batteries!!
I lost count of how many electric item's I've replaced because I either couldn't swallow the price of a replacement battery and/or couldn't find a battery at any price.
Dust buster (possibly off-brand), digital camera, MP3 player, elec. screwdriver & drill, rotary tool...
I had decided that my next lawn mower would be cordless electric, I have a very small yard so I'm a prime candidate.  But, I am now in the market for a mower and I feel like I'm peering into a labyrinth...

This is exactly why I went with Ryobi. They are still using a battery system that is compatible with 25 year old tools- it moved to Lithium, but remained the same. The old chargers will not work with new batteries, but the old tools certainly do! Yes, they introduced a "40v" (36v) battery that isn't compatible with their 18v line, but they are for different purposes.

Also, if you stick to larger brands, adapters are often available to connect one brand of battery to a different brand of tool.

The typical EV has an eight year / 100K mile warranty anyhow. ;)

I am curious about why my ebike is 5 seasons old now and works fine but your EGO battery of similar chemistry is failing after what did you say - two seasons?
