Husband's old phone is not turning/staying on consistently, so he went shopping online. He decided on a Motorola (Android) phone, and it turns out his phone comes with a free phone. The free one, a G6, is an older generation, and it looks to me like they're really trying to unload old stock.
You can currently (December 2019) get the G6 without a contract
-For "free"/included with the purchase of various other phones from Motorola
-For $100 on Amazon
-For $100 including three months of service from Republic Wireless*, currently backordered but available.
-For $250 _for two_ from Motorola
We're thinking of upgrading Mom and Dad to a smartphone, since we're about to have a spare. If you or someone you know could use a cheap, basic phone, this seems to me to be about as cheap as they come. I have a different model Motorola, which is a year or two old and is serving me well.
*Republic Wireless and US Mobile are discount carriers with month-to-month plans from around $15-$20 per month and the option to buy additional data a la carte. Husband uses US Mobile; I use Republic. Obviously, check your coverage and interoperability with your devices, but I've had a smooth experience with better support, less baloney, and less cost than the big carriers.
(I don't work for any of the above. Just passing along what we found. The best savings always come from not buying what you don't need.)
