2800 square foot ranch, difficult areas to get to in the attic.
Just got a quote of $5250 for the following:
Air seal top plates, plumbing & electrical penetrations.
Air seal the perimeter of the laundry room closet ceiling.
Seal the top of the furnace room ceiling with drywall, foam board, & foam.
Box over bath fans & recessed lights.
Install an eave chute & stuffer in every other soffit bay.
Remove the fiberglass around the duct work in the attic, Mastic all the seams & re-insulate with bubble wrap. Make sure all connections are secure.
Create an energy lid to sit over the fold down stairs.
Add 6" R-21 cellulose fiber insulation on top of the existing fiberglass in the attic.
Install netting on the shared wall & insulate with 3.5" R-13 cellulose fiber insulation.
Honestly, I was expecting it to be in the 3k-4k range so this seems higher than I thought but I have no idea what is reasonable. This is from a dedicated insulation/air sealing company versus a general contractor.
Thoughts? I currently have insulation of R20 in the attic and my electricity bills run $250 in the summer and up to $800 in the winter. Will having this done pay off?
Thanks!
