Haircutting Tips Discovered During Pandemic

Who else finally took the plunge to become competent at hair cutting during the pandemic? What tips did you learn?

I bought these hair clippers on Amazon: WONER 8-Piece Hair Cutting Kits, Cordless Hair Clippers Hair Trimmers for Men IPX7 Waterproof

I got a very short haircut, 6mm on top then faded down to about 1mm at the edges. Next time i want to try the David Beckham haircut: 3mm everywhere, maybe faded down to 1mm at the edges.

I need to buy scissors to cut my and my daughter's hair.  Does anyone have a specific recommendation for scissors?  Since I normally pay a lot for a single haircut, I am happy to invest in a good pair.  Thanks!

I don't have any advice on where to get scissors--I just picked up a pair four years ago at a Sally's--a mid-priced pair as I recall, and with my Wahl clippers and Wahl Peanut clipper have been fine ever since. (Female, earlobe-length reverse bob, fine, straight, silky hair.) What I've learned over the four years: Don't let any hair get in your drains--it does add up over time and will cause your drain to slow down or plug. Also I would buy one of those black capes to keep the hair clippings off you, and also have a re-chargeable hand vacuum right there where you are cutting, to pick up clippings immediately.

I have a Wahl clipper set that comes with scissors that I got from Walmart a few years ago.  For the pandemic, I'm just growing out my hair and cutting the bangs every once in a while.  I keep thinking it'd be fun to wear braids but I never get around to braiding my hair.  There are youtube instruction videos for cutting layers for yourself but you need long hair to start that, so that's my longer-term aim.
