For anyone using or considering Zipcar
« on: June 18, 2014, 01:32:46 PM »
I haven't used Zipcar in over a year.  I called to cancel my membership after getting an email saying that the $60 annual membership is coming due.  They offered to switch me to a weekday-only plan that has no annual fee.  No holidays, 100 mile per-day limit.

Good to know, thanks.  I've been considering dropping my membership anyways.

I used to use City Car Share, a similar service. They also offered a no-annual-fee plan because I rarely drove. It was nice to have the car as a backup for rainy days. "Occasional Use Plan." Go for it!

I've used RelayRides for over a year. Far superior to Zip in our metro area based on my experience. No yearly fees to offset Zip's maintenance program.

I am thinking about joining Zipcar in Boston, but don't like the idea of the annual fee. What is the name of the weekday-only plan? Was it the monthly plan or something else? I looked at their website and didn't see a plan that included only weekdays, but I would be interested in that if it's available. I'd also be willing to use your referral code if you have one. Thanks.

I was wondering the same, so I sent e-mail to the support few days ago. I will report back if they will reply to me. I used to have Zipcar membership and still have a zipcard so it would be really convinient.

Thanks! Just got a $60 refund (last billed in Feb!) and onto the weekend plan!

I did ask why I didn't see it on the website and they said it was because they only offer it to members who are 'leaving' rather than for new members.

For people who have access to it, I occasionally do use car2go which is has a one time fee and is pretty convenient for some purposes as well. That being said, it is nice to rent a pickup every great once in a while for construction supplies, etc.

@Slug: Have you tried RelayRides? Even in an un-trucky area like Cambridge, MA, four pickups show up on my first page sorted by location ... most expensive is < $50 for 26 hours.
