Television addict needs help
« on: June 11, 2019, 06:49:10 AM »
Hi - I need some help/advice about television. We have a subscription to Direct TV which I would love to kick to the curb. However DH loves his Fox News programming (please, no judgement).

I know I can stream and record that via Hulu live but will have to upgrade my Roku to do so (I have a very old Roku which works like a charm!).

Need advice on what do do if you don't want to use on air DVR services. Has to be low tech and easy to navigate due to DH and some medical issues. All help is welcomed. Cost is also a factor - I don't want to spend $500 on Tivo and think that's a  crazy amount of money to spend on electronics.

Check out YoutubeTV: https://tv.youtube.com/

You should be able to use that on your Roku. You can watch live TV and record programming. I think you can also watch past-aired programming without having to record it.

I have a buddy using The Players Klub.
https://troypoint.com/how-to-install-the-players-klub/
It costs $8 a month but in the two months he has had it it has worked flawless.
My buddy is a tinkerer, with all the android TV streaming boxes, I thing he has 8 now.
He has tried all kinds of streaming services, most of them free, but for $8 his advice is
get it. It has the best user interface, lack of pixalization, no down channels.
As to whether it's legal, I'm not sure who is legally wrong the provider or the user, if anyone.
What streaming box, I'm happy with the Amazon devices, Fire TV stick, Fire TV Stick 4k, or Some like the Fire Cube. I don't have that, my buddy did, but Alexa was too intrusive, always listening.
I now have an extra FireTVStick, when I visited my Daughter, I took it, just so I could watch Foxnews. Worked fine. btw that was using an APK called Modbro.
