Rec for Budget App? (Free)
« on: February 22, 2025, 01:18:59 PM »
Hi! I was a loyal Mint user for a long time, and was sad to see it absorbed and shut down by Intuit. I used the free 1-yr trial of Quicken Simplifi but now they are charging a monthly fee. Can anyone recommend anapp that auto-sorts expenses to categories? I track my expenses on a daily basis. Thanks!

There is a VERY limited version of Goodbudget that is a good starting point.

I actually started budgeting with Every Dollar ages ago, like when I was 20. I don't agree with everything Dave Ramsey preaches, but I did think it was a good start.

$50 a year, or whatever you want, seems so fair for lunch money. The envelope system has worked great for me. I have bought six years of YNAB now. I haven't been perfect with my finances in that time, but using a legit budgeting software makes tracking and planning your spending so doable.

I think I would be in a legitimately worse spot without YNAB and ultimately probably would have never ended up here. I used Dave Ramsey's every dollar back in the day. It was a good starting point, but ultimately I liked YNAB more, mostly for the envelope system.
