bloggers still in debt?
« on: June 20, 2014, 01:19:01 PM »
S o while I've done almost everything I can to lower expenses and earn more, the fact is that it's going to take me more than a year to get out of debt.

Most of the blogs I used to follow are out of debt and have moved on. I'd like to follow along with someone who's still chipping away at the amount they owe.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm a female in her late 20's in Canada. I read and follow all kinds of blogs  though.

He's a very active member on this forum. You better hurry though, because I think they are about to pass $0 NW. I'm cheering for them from my corner of the world.

I'm still in debt (frugalstudent.blogspot.com) but I don't know if I am what you are looking for.  I am a student and since our loans are deferred I don't really mention them much.

I'm Canadian, female, and a similar age, and I've been contemplating starting one... :) I think we have a unique niche too. I'll post if I do.

Me lol. 83K currently. Progress isn't very interesting right now though as I save a small emergency fund and search for a job.

Us! And we'll be in debt for a while. :p Our loans are in the grace period too but we are already chipping away at them.

Thanks for the link.  I already made his pumpkin pancakes using a dented can of pumpkin we've had in the pantry for a couple years.  Delicious!  I love how he cooks mostly with staples, something we need to get better at doing.

The YNAB blog typically has some good posts on getting out of debt.  Good luck, it feels great when you get there!

Shameless plug here for the "Double Debt Single Woman" blog  www.doubledebtsinglewoman.com

I'm a thirty-something single American woman digging out of $140,000 of debt (mostly student loans).

Two issues:

1.  In your most recent post the image that you used spelled "paid" as "payed."  Of course the government is going to loan that person money; if s/he can't spell s/he won't question.

2.  Instead of whining about how much money the U.S. federal government is making off student loans, why don't you go back to your college/university and ask why it's charging six figures for degrees?

MandalayVA: First, this thread is obviously not the place for that discussion. Why don't you post your comments on my blog, where they belong? Second, that post is the only one that I have about student loans and thus is not the focus of my blog. Responses like yours are why I tend to avoid the topic.

Back to the purpose of this MMM thread...
If anyone is interested in reading about other people's climb out of debt, my story is out there. www.doubledebtsinglewoman.com

I have really enjoyed reading The Pursuit of Riches blog. It's a young woman living in New York trying to recover from her previous lifestyle of excessive spending and racking up debt. She talks a lot about her goal setting and financial accountability, but she's also got a great sense of humor!

I would suggest starting from the beginning: http://thepursuitofriches.com/2013/10/13/day-0-waking-up/

I'm still in the building stage of my blog, but you can get a sneak peak at www.RedToRiches.com.

It's the first website I've built around personal finance. I felt hopeless a few years ago with massive student loan debt, and although I still have over 100K in debt, I believe I'm finally in a position to succeed.

My primary goal is to show fellow young professionals it's possible to get back on your feet after taking on substantial student loans.

Another site to check out is manvsdebt.com. The original writer has a great Ted Talk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9XRPbFIN4lk

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
