I need a good stick vacuum for the hardwood and tile floors in my house.
We're just about to throw away our second rechargeable stick vacuum in 5 years and I'm sick of the waste. The first one suffered a fatal crack at the joint between the handle and the head. We still use the handheld part in the garage. The second has batteries that can't be replaced (we've tried) and needs to go.
I'm thinking we should select a corded model for our next attempt. We have two long-haired cats, so bonus points for pet hair removal features. What models have you had good experiences with?

Do you mind sharing the brands of the old ones? I’m slowly shopping for a new vacuum and I wanted cordless but not if they break easily!

Sure. The current one is a Deik. I really like it, but the model we have isn't made anymore and the battery pack is wired into a circuit board. Boo!
The previous one is the Bissel Pet Stick. Worked great until the plastic swivel ball thingy(TM) broke and couldn't be repaired.
I just want to buy something that will last.

I haven't researched stick vacuums much because I had trouble finding information on exactly what you're asking (it's been a couple years though so the market may have changed!).
Every time I look into them, I find myself considering getting a canister system instead - if you're already thinking corded, adding the canister to the deal might not be too far an inconvenience for you? I have a Miele upright that has been a champ, so I'd probably stick with Miele canisters. For now I just use the wand on my upright. And next fall I'll find myself looking up stick vacuums again so hopefully you find something fantastic for me to consider :)

Would a canister vac work on hard floors? The other downside is I really, really like having a handheld component for getting pet hair off the furniture. I don't think a canister would work for that.

I bought a corded dust buster after my second battery one died.
Some time later I had to buy a new vacuum. I got a Hoover Windtunnel upright. It has a hose & 'on board' tubes and attachments. They work great, I very seldom use my dust buster any more.

I have the corded version of the bissell poweredge pet vacuum and have no complaints.

My BF is the one who vacuums, but he loves it (no kidding, he actually looks forward to vacuuming each week). Our whole house is wood, tile and laminate, so this is all we need. It separates from the base to get to awkward spaces, it swivels, it totally flattens to get under the bed and it came with a bunch of attachments.

You can get the same vacuum without the pet attachments for $100 cheaper. I like having the attachments, but I wouldn't pay $100 for them.

Dyson DC 41. Seven years in and running strong. Was $410 at time of purchase ($150 ish off due to Kohls cash and a sale). Comes out to $58.51 a year so far and no signs of slowing down. All parts are serviceable and fairly easy to replace.

Quick update. We still haven't purchased a vacuum. We've been getting by with sweeping and using our tiny ShopVac on the area rugs. This week I had small Mustachian victory. For the next two months we are doing a product test on a new vacuum. Assuming I complete all the required feedback, we get free use of a vacuum (and get to use it as hard as we want!) plus $75, which will go a long way toward funding the purchase of our next vacuum.

I bought this vacuum and absolutely hate it! The roller is too powerful and kinda pulls you around unless you stand your ground and use two hands on it. It absolutely tears up my wool rug too. The container will fill up with wool fibers in like one minute. I've used it like twice until I just decided not to vacuum anymore. (Don't judge I only have two rugs!)
