Prior to retiring, my sleep quality/quantity was terrible and I often suffered from my autoimmune disease symptoms. I was on a high dosage of specialized anti-inflammatory medication and I would be on steroids during my worst flare-ups.  My biggest goal when I retired was to focus on my health and well being. Leaving my career of managing a high stress 24/7 operation was the first step.

It's taken years to get a routine and diet that maximizes my health and well being. I have tried everything from a juicing diet, carnivore diet and everything in-between.  I joined a gym, but found that I hated it.  Although lifestyle probably wouldn't be considered an activity, it's now a major part of my life.  I start each day with a glass of water and a walk outside to get the morning sun. We maintain a 16/8 intermittent fasting routine, eat pescatarian on the weekdays, reduced our intake of processed foods significantly, eliminated sodas and other sugary drinks and reduced alcohol intake.  I rotate between a 5 & 10 minute calisthenics routine each day, try to walk at least 8,000 steps daily and play pickleball 3 days a week. I regularly meet up with friends to paddle board, kayak and fish.  I also solo fish from a kayak.  I average maybe 2-3 books a year vs. none when I was working.  All of our kids/grandkids live within 200 miles, so we usually spend time with at least one of them weekly.  We also enjoy traveling within the states and abroad. 

It's taken time, but I now have a diet and home exercise routine that has my autoimmune disease fully under control and my health in order.  My triglyceride levels are half what they were 6 years ago, I average around 8 hrs of sleep daily and I'm probably in the best shape of my adult life. I still have to take anti-inflammatory meds, but I'm on half the dosage.

Well done @bmjohnson35 that's a really impressive turnaround!

Thanks Jade.  More than a few of my colleagues and friends tried to talk me out of retiring. They said I was too young, I would become bored and would regret it.  I believe most had good intentions, but I sure am happy I didn't listen.

I’ve been waiting for Months to post here. I officially FIRE’d on Friday, and so far, I’ve done a lot of hiking and swimming with DD, who is on summer vacation. I absolutely love spending a couple hours a day exercising. The rest of the time, I’ve been meal planning and reading. I’m sure things will shift as I am just a baby FIRE-ee. But so far, it’s been wonderful!

I'm thinking of volunteering as a dog walker at my local county dog pound, now that I'm recovering from my new hip.
The only thing stopping me is the realization that I am a soft hearted dog lover and I really don't want to adopt a dog right now, and I'm sure I would find at least one really awesome dog.

Uh, home improvements for family members? We're visiting our grandkids and their parents, except they're at a family reunion on the East Coast. This is a bonus because we don't have little kids underfoot. We are literally touching something in every room of their house and it's currently a helluva mess. We're pushing to get the dirty work done before they return so we can enjoy each other's company before we have to head for home, 'cuz we have other fun stuff on the calendar. Fun times!
