Ditto on Cardston @MrRichMoose
You need to be a rancher to fit in
You need to LOVE it being windy all the time
You still get serious winter

I really liked the description (and photos) of your recent trip to Victoria F45.  Travelling by bike would be so awesome.  I have to try that soon.

Did you try the Galloping Goose while you were there?  Is it relatively flat?  I enjoy biking but prefer bike paths to roads.

Vancouver Island holds so much appeal...no doubt about it!

We rode the urban part of the Galloping Goose, but it extends another ~45kms to Sooke - most of which is not paved. The GG is a rail trail so max 3% grade. It is flatish with some slight rolling sections. There are a few harder climbs either over a bridge or down into a valley and back up, but they are quite brief.

Cheers R-C!  I didn't realize that trail went all the way to Sooke.

There is another similar trail [The Lochside Trail] that leaves the GG around the Uptown Mall and heads north to Sidney and the ferries. Also very flat. This "trail" occasionally routes you through some quiet residential roads and is both dirt and paved.

They are extending the GG at the Sooke end so you'll be able to ride up to Lake Cowichan or Duncan on it. That should be done by end of next summer.

Nice!

It's wonderful they have a great pathway system like that.
