We are doing this as well...but not for me. It's more for my wife--and I think it will be well worth the money:
We have plenty of money to FIRE, but my wife keeps wanting to put all it under a mattress. She has trusted me up to this point, and we have done well, but I want her on board with a retirement plan--to show her: (1) We are going to be OK; (2) Some money needs to continue to be invested; (3) Should something happen to me, she has a plan (and a person she could get in touch with to get advice); (4) to help her get an idea of what our monthly income levels will be at certain stages of our retirement.
I feel I have a pretty good grasp of this, but this falls under the realm of having a person (other than her husband) tell my wife that she is going to be okay. It isn't really a trust issue--it is a double-check/insurance that (for us) is well-worth the money.
We are meeting with a fee-based CFP this Friday. It is an hourly cost of $300 per hour. I think we will need about 6 hours total to formulate a comprehensive retirement plan--and then I will manage from there (with my wife's consent and buy-in). This wouldn't be money I would spend if I were on my own, but I think it will be well worth (and I might learn a thing or two, too).
Good luck. Hourly CFPs are out there.
