Title: First solicitation
Post by: The Pigeon on August 24, 2015, 11:01:29 AM
I guess in general, other people make the connection between "RE" and "FI"... I had an acquaintance spring an "invitation to investors” business plan on me. The person knows I quit my job, and because they are but an acquaintance, I simply told them I'd retired. (Some people, especially "closer" people, I say I'm doing freelance and/or "taking some time off" because it leads to fewer questions--I figure more distant folks won't be quite as curious).

Anyway, I was surprised to get this handed to me. That's a first! I live frugally, but I guess they assume I must be a Madame Moneybags now. Thus far I haven't responded (nor have I read the proposal). This early into FIRE (three months)  I'm not ready nor confident enough to be a philanthropist.

Anyone else been targeted by people you know post-FIRE?

Oh.  Not *that* kind of solicitation.  :-(

No, it hasn't happened to me.  I've gotten some stink eye, a few good for you's, a lot of 'meh-whateva', and two people ask me for stock tips that can double their money in a year.

Most of my friends are not too entrepreneurial (thankfully?).  Most hairbrained ideas are easily dismissed.  Sometimes I do wonder if I need to be hanging out with more adventurous people. But who knows what might happen once they start hitting their 40 something midlife crises!

No, not by people I know personally.  I do get my fair share of investment and investment advice proposals from professionals that have figured I need them in order not to end up eating cat food in my '80s.
