Title: ACA tip of the day - ACA Catastrophic plans with affordability exemption
Post by: jim555 on November 13, 2020, 12:39:27 PM
A little known feature of the ACA are catastrophic plans for those under 30 yo.  Normally those over 30 can't buy these plans.  Why would you want to?  Because they are much cheaper then Bronze plans but are basically the same in coverage.  How does one get permission to buy?  Get an affordability exemption.  If the lowest cost Bronze plan is more than around 9% of estimated income you would qualify, just be over 400% FPL so you don't qualify for subsidies.
