Has anyone watched 'Nine Perfect Strangers' (Hulu)?  They just kicked off a second season, so I'm giving it a try.  I used to love everything Nicole Kidman was in, until she started to take every role offered...  First episode was good.

It's not good. I read the book, which was actually half interesting, but the show is just odd. It's not unwatchably odd, but the entire time I was happy I had the book as a reference for what the fuck the tone was supposed to be like.

Right, what is the deal with Nicole Kidman being everywhere all at once and all of them in mediocre productions? I think I asked this question on another thread and I’m not sure we had any discussion about it.

Does she all of a sudden need money? Does she all of a sudden think her time is running out in Hollywood and she needs to get in front of the camera as much as possible?

I read an article a while ago and don't remember all the details.
I think it has something to do with a mission to support by her involvement a lot of women in film, writers, directors, producers. Again, I don't remember the details and I don't like her as an actress but it left a favorable impression.

She has her own production company as well, so that's a major factor as to why she's in so much right now.

I tried Fargo and though it was fine. I think I bailed in the middle of the third season it just didn't keep me hooked

What’s the season with Jean Smart and the
Jewish mobsters? That was really good.

I think that was season 2, but I'm not sure

Yeah, I'm thinking you might enjoy slow and moody. Intense silences are not my jam.

Ok, I'll take it. But the silences have to be tense.

I also enjoy good dialog and performance. One of my favorite movies of late is his three daughters. It's not so silent, but I liked it a lot. I also enjoyed the suspense in Conclave.

Season 2 of Andor is pretty amazing. Just finished episode 9. I’m really enjoying the depth of the character development for characters that I’ve known for most of my life.

I might sign up for a month of Disney+ just for Andor. I'm a fan of Tony Gilroy, the showrunner, head writer and executive producer of the show (he also wrote Rogue One).

I loved Season 1 of Andor. So I'm 6 episodes into Season 2, and I get the impression it's basically what @Taran Wanderer said... "character development for characters that I've known for most of my life".

That's, eh... code for fan service Not in a derogatory way. BUT... as someone who does not know the Star Wars universe all that well, there are characters I'm not attached to, that... Andor hasn't changed that for me. And then we have these slow moving background / subplots developing their characters, and I've had a hard time being moved by it. And there's very little action in most of those 6 episodes except for like 30-60 seconds at the end of 2 or 3 episodes. And there's things that happen that my spouse and I simply couldn't figure out without asking a better Star Wars fan about. Overall I simply haven't enjoyed watching it, which is super frustrating. And I'll never be the person to do a bunch of homework going into a show, so I am just feeling a bit ambivalent about it. I'm told episodes 7-9 are so satisfying, and I hope that's true, but it's all I can do to find motivation to even attempt to convince my spouse it'll be worth sitting through 3 more episodes.

I watched the first season.  Not worth watching.  I'm surprised it got picked up for a second season.

The book wasn't bad but we gave up after the first ep of the series.

Thanks for the heads up on 'Nine Perfect Strangers'!  I got the book on Audible, so maybe I'll go that route instead.  I find that I enjoy the books more than the serials anyway ('Silo' for instance).

'Your Friends and Neighbors' (Apple TV) has been a lot of fun, definitely recommend.  Has some interesting Mustachian-ish commentaries on how empty a life of conspicuous consumption can be.

I watched the first few episodes of Friend and Neighbours before my subscription ran out and I thought it was quite fun. It has some great dialogue and Jon Hamm is pretty good at physical comedy in a lot of the awkward scenes where things go sideways.

I am curious how it plays out, which could make it either a solid show or a total failure if they don't stick the landing on the plot, because so far, the set up episodes have been great.

DW and I watched Andor S2 together. She is a big SW fan, I'm not, though I can get caught up in the cinema.

I agree, it hasn't been the most enjoyable experience, especially given that the first half of the season made very little sense. We asked somebody about certain parts, like major screen time commitments for very little plot, and they told us it was important for the canon, but failed to convey/convince me that it was good. I just didn't get it.

Episodes 7-9 were truly good, gripping, exciting, suspenseful... Everything you'd want out of this kind of TV show. But, I'm still confused to the executive decisions for the first half.

Without spoiling anything, I didn't really get the finale either. DW thinks I should have watched rogue 1 before watching the finale/last few episodes.

I probably won't watch any more Star wars tv/movies. DW loved it, even though she's not the savviest on the canon. Our friends loved it too.

We watched the Pee Wee Herman documentary on Max. It was fun to see clips from back in the day and get some backstory on the character development.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
