I loved Season 1 of Andor. So I'm 6 episodes into Season 2, and I get the impression it's basically what @Taran Wanderer said... "character development for characters that I've known for most of my life".
That's, eh... code for fan service Not in a derogatory way. BUT... as someone who does not know the Star Wars universe all that well, there are characters I'm not attached to, that... Andor hasn't changed that for me. And then we have these slow moving background / subplots developing their characters, and I've had a hard time being moved by it. And there's very little action in most of those 6 episodes except for like 30-60 seconds at the end of 2 or 3 episodes. And there's things that happen that my spouse and I simply couldn't figure out without asking a better Star Wars fan about. Overall I simply haven't enjoyed watching it, which is super frustrating. And I'll never be the person to do a bunch of homework going into a show, so I am just feeling a bit ambivalent about it. I'm told episodes 7-9 are so satisfying, and I hope that's true, but it's all I can do to find motivation to even attempt to convince my spouse it'll be worth sitting through 3 more episodes.
DW and I watched Andor S2 together. She is a big SW fan, I'm not, though I can get caught up in the cinema.
I agree, it hasn't been the most enjoyable experience, especially given that the first half of the season made very little sense. We asked somebody about certain parts, like major screen time commitments for very little plot, and they told us it was important for the canon, but failed to convey/convince me that it was good. I just didn't get it.
Episodes 7-9 were truly good, gripping, exciting, suspenseful... Everything you'd want out of this kind of TV show. But, I'm still confused to the executive decisions for the first half.
Without spoiling anything, I didn't really get the finale either. DW thinks I should have watched rogue 1 before watching the finale/last few episodes.
I probably won't watch any more Star wars tv/movies. DW loved it, even though she's not the savviest on the canon. Our friends loved it too.
