Eric Carmen - Hungry Eyes

The chick playing the sax solo doesn't even bother moving her fingers around, strong evidence of not giving a fuck about faking some music video.

The Antlers - Two

Haunting song, brilliant and striking lyrics, like you don't see so often nowadays. The whole concept album ('Hospice') is incredible.

"Scorpions" by Nero  I can't get over the sound they introduce at 4:03.  Though I would argue it takes getting a feel for the first 4 minutes of the song to truly appreciate the outro.

Currently listening to a succession of my children practicing piano.  I love it when they get beyond the plink, plonk stage and make beautiful music!

I just got the new Flyleaf album.  A lot of fans are angry that Lacey Sturm left the band, but it's not the band's fault because Sturm wanted to retire from touring to raise her children.  Kristen May has a really good voice and the new album is really good.

Kelly Clarkson - My Life Would Suck Without You

God dammit, this is a good dancepop song. It has that legato vocals over quicker chord changes, like Avenged Sevenfold - Hail To The King. Anyone know any more songs with that motif?

Do you have a genre preference? I listen to lots of stuff but do tend to favor heavy rock music. Here are a few split out by genre(or rather, sub-genre):

Rock
------
Coheed & Cambria - Progressive Rock, Scifi subject matter, awesome hair: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c7jtc7JiRcE
Tool - For when you're angsty

Folk
-------
Cat Stevens - Just pick anything, if you feel like being a hippy and loving everybody.

Glam Rock/Pop Rock/Soul
-----------------------------
Foxy Shazam - Just listen to them. You won't regret it. Best live show I've ever seen. Recommended songs: Oh Lord, Holy Touch
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kgBKS4JCsec

Also, Wax Mannequin, Mr. Mustache's brother's band. I was a big fan of the "End of Me" song. It has a bit of a folk-lore feel to it. It's in my listen to every day list at this point.

Lol I enjoyed both versions. In the spirit of covers, have you heard the New Found Glory cover of "Kiss Me"(Original Sixpence None the Richer) ?

And of course, I never get tired of Alient Ant Farm's cover of Smooth Criminal(Originally Michael Jackson)

The kids are investigating their sami heritage, my favorite joiks so far are:
the wind, by Sofia Jannok: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aPqKAuzo0tk (also recommend her TED talk about how miners are taking their land)
the sun, by Solveig Andersson: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_FzEpXNOjCY
Daniel's joik, by Jon Henrik Fjällgren: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tCL9FiAuezk (winner of Sweden got talent. His "Utøya" is even stronger, but that is gone from youtube)

For the metal heads, Týr has a some good stuff. Don't really know their genre, maybe folk metal or viking metal?
In faroese: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f8hyVMR7MWU
In english: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=se78ttwyrcQ
My favorites are those based on 1000 years old songs preserved in oral tradition, e.g.: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SXjF9po2hYk&index=13&list=RDfu2bgwcv43o and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wMBWl-gSIJ4

We are trying to preserve the oral traditions and the original songs. I only know 2-300 verses by heart, but am hoping to at least learn this one before July (this is less than half the 250 verses): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-isvp2X864&index=13&list=PL81B042944C4C7183. Here it is danced by ~10 000 people at the national holidays: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dX2pjyHipwU

Walk Off The Earth - Material Girl (orig. Madonna)

Great Madonna cover! Also, with the right interpretation, mustachian:

Some boys kiss me, some boys hug me
I think they're O.K.
If they don't give me proper credit
I just walk away

They can beg and they can plead
But they can't see the light, that's right
'Cause the boy with the cold hard cash
Is always Mister Right,
'cause we are

Living in a material world
And I am a material girl
You know that we are living in a material world
And I am a material girl

Some boys romance, some boys slow dance
That's all right with me
If they can't raise my interest then I
Have to let them be

Some boys try and some boys lie but
I don't let them play
Only boys that save their pennies
Make my rainy day,
'cause they are

Living in a material world (material)
Living in a material world

Boys may come and boys may go
And that's all right you see
Experience has made me rich
And now they're after me,
'cause everybody's

A material, a material, a material, a material world

Living in a material world (material)
Living in a material world

NB. Although you may think that the large bulge on the lead singer is a pouch full of quarters for the piggy bank sound effect, she is, in fact, pregnant.

I just got Flyleaf's new album.  Flyleaf have a new singer now since Lacey Sturm retired a couple of years ago so she could raise her kids without being on the road.  Kristen May is a good new singer, but a lot of fans aren't giving her a fair shake.  Check out their new singles "Set Me On Fire" and "Thread".  They still sound terrific.
