Currently at hour 15 of a 16-hour fast.  I fast like this four, five, sometimes six times a week.  Had two cups of black coffee, and will break the fast with a big salad, some bread, fruit, and a handful of peanuts.

For dinner, we did 2 chickens on the rotisserie BBQ and basil feta pasta salad. Also, leftover brown beans I made the other day. Ate outside on the picnic table. Lovely!

Bulletproof coffee.  I don't put a 1/2 stick of butter or whatever in it, more like a tablespoon.  But it's oddly delicious, and now I skip buying cream each week, and I'm drinking fewer cups of coffee since I have to employ the blender to emulsify the butter for each cup.  Even better, I just got a stainless Hario coffee dripper since my plastic Melitta cone died after 15 years of faithful service.  I don't know how it's possible, but the new dripper makes superior coffee; I'm hooked.

Later, leftover pastelon I made last night with a combo of plantain and eggplant.

The hario filter- is that for pour overs? You use it without an additional filter, correct?

Unfortunately it requires special filters that are about 10c each.  I compost the grounds and filter, and didn't want to wash a lot of grounds down the drain into our septic, so I didn't go with one of the filterless drippers.  The one I have is the Hario V60.

10c each? That seems like a lot. Are they the cone shaped ones? If so, you can fold regular drip basket filters into the cone shape (I get 300 for $1, and those are the unbleached ones... bleached ones are like 300 for $0.75) and they hold up well. I just saved you nearly 10c a day ;) If you want a cleaner taste, set up the filter and pre-rinse it with water to remove spare paper fibers.

To be fair, the extra paper does remove some of the volatile oils and SOME PEOPLE claim they can taste the difference. I brew strong coffee, so I haven't noticed a difference. YMMV, but the cone filters seem crazy spendy to me.

Actually realized that they're 5c, not 10, but I have some of the cheap flat bottom ones,  will give them a try when I run out of the fancy ones.  If not, 1.50/ month on filters is probably OK.

Eating tonight, herb roasted chicken, red cabbage braised in bacon fat, and home grown radishes sauteed in butter and finished with Gorgonzola.

Walnut and water. Add both these things in your life and see what magic they create.

Rice and steam veggies (broccoli, mushrooms, carrot slivers, and edamame). Sprinkle it with a little basil and you've the perfect meal to warm at work!

I'm hoping to improve on it next week with some green onions, steamed spinach, and lentils. Essentially, this is my "work food:" a packet of nutrients and calories that costs nothing, tastes great, and goes far.

Homemade chana and aloo. As a bonus, I've just discovered it can be made in the crockpot, and is delicious.

Nothing right now.

Picking up a Costco rotisserie chicken for dinner tonight. Serving it with steamed brown rice and a chopped salad. Dark chocolate or gelato for dessert.

I baked some cod, red bell peppe, and sweet potato in coconut milk and served the whole thing over brown rice. It's really good, though I wish I wouldn't have grabbed the 400 F frying pan handle when I was serving myself some.

Meatballs in pizza dough. Lot of fun.

Made a lime meringue pie for someone's birthday this afternoon as well.

And there's a chicken marinating overnight for Chinese roasted chicken for dinner.

These chicken fajitas were fantastic!

http://www.simplyrecipes.com/recipes/chicken_fajitas/

I marinated meat from a whole chicken from 2 days ago that I cooked in the crockpot.  I didn't have jalepenos or cilantro, but they still tasted great! Would be even better with those additions.  Added rice and black beans.

Family loved it, so its definitely going into my recipe file!

Too funny... I discovered this recipe not too long ago and have already made it maybe three times. I have my chicken breast thawing to make it again for dinner tonight!

So ya +1 recommend.

Try #2 at fried rice. Scrambled the eggs separately and the texture came out much better, tight the tase was good both times. A good use of leftover rice.

Delicious spinach bake.

Several sweet potatoes and spinach (chopped into small pieces for both), italian sausage, a handful of eggs, and beef broth. DELICIOUS.

Our garden greens are going great right now so we are eating tons of salads.  Tonight we added some grilled chicken, nuts, cranberries and strawberries from our neighbor onto a mixed bed of red leaf, Boston, endive, spinach and chard picked fresh this afternoon.

For some reason it seems to taste so much better when you grow it yourself.

Coffee with cream. May seem like no big deal to other people, but I was so sick yesterday that I had 2 slices of dry toast and about 4oz of water for the entire day. So coffee and cream staying down today? A culinary victory that I'm embracing with deep gratitude. Next, I will try to eat an egg. Wish me luck!

Lemon Chiffon tea from Republic of Tea. Amazing. I'm in the middle of weight loss so I consider this my mid-morning "snack" and it seems decadent enough to satisfy my sweet tooth without any actual sugar. I can't be the only person that walks around with tea bags for tea emergencies, right?

Leftover sushi from what we made for lunch yesterday.
(We made fried shrimp with mango, and fried shrimp with sweet potato and cream cheese)

It refrigerates fairly well.

Pulled duck poutine. First time trying poutine. I think the components were all good, but would have been better separately than together. The gravy makes the fries more soggy and takes the salty and crispy aspects away.

I'm so skeptical of the whole poutine concept. French fries with gravy and curds? I haven't tried it but it sounds like slop.

I'm going to have to make poutine sometime this month to see. Just not sure where to buy cheddar curds.

So good! When the child and I both like it, it gets added to the family recipe book. Served it with sauteed chicken in orange citrus sauce. Side of white rice.

Not right now, but last night's dinner:

Lasagne made with grilled eggplant in place of pasta (or "noodles" as you guys seem to call it), the sauce was tomato-based and very garlicky with turkey mince, spinach, zucchini, mushroom, carrot and onion. Super saucy and rich-tasting, but actually super healthy. No white sauce, but mozzarella on top for cheesy goodness.
