It's in Montana- all you need a canoe, some adventurous friends and a few days worth of food!

+1

My sister just went to New Zealand for her honeymoon. She visited Hobbiton. It looks like New Zealand out in Montana.

Oh there are plenty of great outdoors. It's just covered with lots of snow and ice at the moment. Not the greatest canoeing conditions :)

I really want to canoe the Yukon River from Whitehorse to Dawson City. I would also really like to build my own canoe.

Copy!

Both industrious endeavors, keep me posted! Canoes are a huge part of my life and respect to the guys that build them. I'm afraid if I went through all that effort to make a beautiful handmade canoe, I'd be heartbroken every time we scraped a rock :)

I had the same thought. I have a friend who built one. It's surprisingly durable and not that hard to repair if you put a serious ding in it. Having seen one in action alleviated my fears. I just need some free time and some space in my garage :)

Glad you had a great time. I live here in Montana and try to get out in the wilderness as much as possible so as not to take where I live for granted. Where did you visit? Fellow mustachians are always welcome at our little slice of paradise in the country if you are passing through

Hey! We may take you up on that. Yes, don't take your state for granted- it's one of the most beautiful and least crowded places you can enjoy in the US!!
This particular trip is along the upper Missouri River starting near Fort Benton
Its the Lewis and Vlarke trail, and since its a national monument looks pretty much like it did back then. A true mustachian vacation as its free to camp along the river. If people are interested I'll post more pics(we've done it twice)
Its adventurous(once you're on the river theres no more civilization for days) its relaxing(class 1 river- wide flat and shallow) and since you're in canoes you can bring plenty of luxury items that normally you couldnt get to a place that remote without having to carry them. The first time we went we didnt see another soul for 4 days, second time we ran into a friendly family of 5 and enjoyed stories around a campfire one night with them

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
