Unmustachian Spouses

I have been feeling under the weather the past two days and have not stepped out of the house the whole time.  When I get sick I get the worst body aches and fevers.  It doesn't help that I'm also the biggest baby when I get sick.

I jokingly said to my not so mustachian wife that if I don't make it that I love her.  She replies that the only thing that will kill you is if you go bankrupt.  That the actual sickness won't do it but seeing a big fat zero in our accounts would.  We both started laughing hysterically.  At least she still makes me laugh.

I didn't want to ruin the moment by telling her that a good majority of our assets are in retirement accounts and are protected from creditors during bankruptcy*, up to certain limits which is not a concern for us.

Anyone else got stories of why they are still with their unmustachian spouse?

mxt0133, I'm glad you and your spouse still care deeply for each other despite your differing philosophies. Thanks for the anecdote, as it makes me even more grateful that my spouse and I are on the same page.

Julie,  It has not been an easy ride.  I was always the saver and she the live in the moment type.  We were together for a long time before we got married so I thought we both knew what we were getting into.  It wasn't until we had our first child and she quit her job to a SAHP that things got really stressful.  I went into mustachian overdrive and she focused solely on the baby/babies. 

I used to be so envious of the couples on this forum that were on the same page and were just killing it towards FIRE.  However, I remind myself that one of the main reasons why I married her was because she was so different.  She opened my eyes on how fun life can be by not thinking about opportunity costs all the time.  Sure we may get to FIRE a decade or so late, but I wouldn't want to get there without her.
