"No collusion."
https://www.newsandguts.com/feds-finally-link-trump-2016-campaign-to-russian-spies/

It is clear that Manfort was deeply compromised, and this is just another piece of that. The unanswered question is still how much DJT knew and when did he know it.

“Feds finally link Trump Campaign to Russian spies”

Didn’t that happen four years ago?  Did not the national security forces jointly testify that Russia actively interfered? Didn’t Mueller already document this with painstaking detail and a number of indictments?  Seems like a “finally” and more of “yet another brick in this massive wall”
No. What happened 4 years ago was "Russian spies linked to Trump Campaign", not "Trump campaign linked to Russian spies".
And yes, that is an important difference: Who was the initiator. I am quite sure the headline maker didn't think about that though.

Also, what does "ultra-conservative" mean?
I can think of 3 possibilities:
A) Either they still want to ban printing presses and punish owning one by death, like the Catholic church in France did (which didn't work so well so Queen Anne in England invented copyright as a more effective censoring system)
B) people with heavy dementia
C) Racists, but we can't call them that because they are going to complain to our advertisers.

There was also that Senate Intelligence committee report.

And the co-chair of that committee--Richard Burr--also voted for conviction in the second of the two impeachment trials.

C) I think the preferred term is "Anglo-Saxon heritage", aka, White Nationalism. The heritage thing does not stand up to really any level of historical scrutiny, but that is beside the point. It is a political desire/reaction to a changing world and idealization of a non-existant past. Mix in people like Cruz who see it as a convenient lever to wield political power and stir the pot as necessary.

So.... they want to repel Norman invaders, build castles, and establish an oppressive feudal system over the serfs?

How ever will they feel when the news of what happened in 1066 catches up with them?

Any progress on criminal investigations of T?    He needs to be securely tucked away in federal prison in about 2 1/2 years...

Keep foreigners away? Check.

Have others toil away their lives to support their greed? check.

Guess they were on to something.

Thought Experiment: Imagine on April 15, 2017, Trump proposed expanding the Supreme Court to 13 members.  How many replies would this topic receive.

Yeah, I would have exploded in rage.
\
Of course I feel compelled to point out the obvious here - Biden hasn't proposed expanding the Supreme Court. He's created a committee tasked with writing what's essentially a research paper on ways which the supreme court could be reformed. It's got 36 members and it's findings are just an analysis - not proposed legislation. The committee is actually notable in that there's some heavy-hitting conservative legal minds on it in addition to a bunch of centrist and progressive scholars.
I think they need to review some of the aspects of the court, Justice Barret has been on the court for less than a year, has very little litigation experience and just got a book deal with a 2mil advance. Clarence Thomas' wife is a right wing activist. You can't tell me that either one of them is impartial.

Truly, it is one of the things about him that has confused me the most, even before he ran for office. He has a decades-long history of not paying bills and stiffing contractors. Everyone should know better than to do any sort of business with him.

My understanding is that the bills he owes primarily come from emergency services like the police being used for security and managing traffic. These aren't costs that are negotiated beforehand, they're costs that local governments incur because they think it's necessary to keep people safe.

That said, it's standard practice to bill campaigns and event organizers for these costs. Most people with integrity pay up. When they don't, they're taking money from the police department, so... defunding the police?

Because if you want to get re-elected, you don't want Trump crying "censoring!!!" on Twitter about you.

But that is good! That is the Free Market working! If people don't pay nobody will give them any credit, right?

Not like in Socialist countries, where the government does nothing except setting up a whole omni-survaillance system just to make sure people pay their bills (that is the official reason for the social credit score system, and it actually has a point because that is a huge problem in China.)

It depends on how effective Trump is in stacking the deck and winning the House.

Trump is running someone against the GA SoS, also a Republican, who didn't kowtow to his "find the votes" plea. That'll be a real shitshow if the Democrat wins again in 2022 and the SoS refuses to certify the vote, or decides to throw out (black) Atlanta votes, or chooses to do a re-vote in certain counties.

Federal agents have executed a search warrant of  Rudy Giuliani's manhattan home as part of an ongoing investigation about whether Giuliani acted as an unregistered foreign agent to Russia on behalf of Donald Trump.

I no longer allow myself to click on any link with the word "Trump" in it...apart from this thread. You guys are my lifeline to...

Let's use the word "connection"...drama. And I am so excited about the Giuliani criminal exposure. I remember when I was a student at Northwestern, and he was circulating to promote a book in 2005. He was greeted as a celebrity, and was already (behind the scenes) fund-raising for a Presidential try. He seems so degraded and disgraced now. And it's going to be hard for him to pay his own attorneys when it seems his most important client isn't interested in paying him:

https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2021/01/trump-doesnt-want-to-pay-stiff-giuliani-legal-fees.html

I will also add that I think Giuliani deserves quite a bit of credit for making Trump seem so un-threatened by the 2019 impeachment threat. Whatever he was doing on TV during that time absolutely bolstered the firewall of conservative support that delivered fifty Senate votes against removal in early 2020.

I frequently interact with a co-worker who supports Trump.

He contacted me today so angry about Joe Manchin's wife being appointed to a government board--some kind of Appalachian thing--and being paid a salary of $160,000/year. Yeah, I'm glad that bothers him when it's the wife of a Democratic Senator.

It surprises me to say this, but Chao was certainly qualified. I’m not supporting her, mind you, but she was the rare example in the trump WH who want woefully unqualified or diametrically opposed to the agencies they were appointed to lead.

Insisting on calling a woman who goes by her birth name “mrs [husbands name]” strikes me as sexist and dated. There are plenty of reasons one could be critical of Chao as an executive branch employee.

I don't disagree that Elaine Chao was qualified. I merely take issue with the hyper-partisan double standard that it is fine for a Republican president to appoint a Republican senator's wife to a high-ranking Cabinet position, but wrong for a Democratic president to do the same.

Good lord.  It’s like the GOP is going out of its way to promote candidates that will have the hardest time attracting independent and ‘soft’ democrats.  Double-down on tossing red-meat to their steadily shrinking base.

Important points to remember:
-Trump got elected playing to the populist/blue collar/racist/conspiracy population
-He only lost the second time because the Democrats got the governors, legislatures, election boards, and courts to all cheat for them  (edit: From the perspective of Trump supporters)
-Other conspiracy theorists and sociopaths got elected to Congress
-He still has influence over local races
-The electoral college is stacked to favor Republicans

In other words, they don't see the last 6 months as a failure of their plans and policies. This was a setback, and before Lady Gaga even got on a plane to go home the legislatures of Arizona, Georgia, and Texas were already writing new election laws to make sure it never happens again.  Even the people that Trump has publicly thrown under the bus don't mind their treatment if there is a sliver of the party staying in power.

-Other conspiracy theorists and sociopaths got elected to Congress
-He still has influence over local races
-The electoral college is stacked to favor Republicans

In other words, they don't see the last 6 months as a failure of their plans and policies. Even the people that Trump has publicly thrown under the bus don't mind their treatment if there is a sliver of the party staying in power.

Lol, ok, Dems cheating? When the court system was stacked with GOP judges? And won the states AZ, GA, and WI which are all GOP controlled states? Get out of here with that nonsense.

It was close because as you said, the deck is stacked for the GOP and Biden had to win by overwhelming numbers just to barely skirt a win.

At least moving forward, there's an outside chance that the National Popular Vote will be in effect in 2024, but I anticipate that it will be in effect by 2028 or 2032. And then the GOP will have to actually appeal to actual people in order to ever have control again.

Seriously?

Chris Christie has already announced that he's planning on running for president in 2024. The game for sucking up and getting Trump's blessing begins now.

-He only lost the second time because the Democrats got the governors, legislatures, election boards, and courts to all cheat for them

Sorry, I didn't think I needed to point out that was sarcasm.

Hah well, the rest of your post I completely agree with so that's why I didn't think it was sarcasm.

I don't believe that there is any GOP Senator or Governor that actually believes Dems cheated, but they'll all be screaming about it during the next campaign.

Question:

Q believes that Trump knew that the Democrats were going to cheat so he put a UV "watermark" on all the ballots to prevent the Democrats from sneaking in new, fraudulent, ones. (Like the ones brought in by ship from North Korea.)

The AZ recount is/was using UV lights to determine if the ballots were real.

What goes through their minds when NONE of the ballots have any UV "watermark"? Do they think, "Ok, maybe that wasn't true." Or do they double down, "Holy shit! The entire AZ election was fraudulent...all the votes cast were replaced by the Democrats!!1111!"

I'm leaning towards the latter.

I had to read it twice to get that, but it wasn’t obvious at first.

The only reason they're doing this recount is because they have the preconceived notion that it's true. Georgia had three recounts and their legislature still believes it was rigged.

I’m skeptical they actually believe it themselves.  Sure, they go on TV and make outrageous statements at rallies, but look at their actions - they are just going through the motions with regard to recounts.  They’ve accepted that BIden is president and aren’t making plans for any ‘great reversal’ of the 2020 election.

I think they feel forced to say such things so they don’t lose their base, but then they just go about being and believing they are the minority party now.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
