Eh, finish the list later.
I am a former teacher who accumulated a bunch of real estate, retired at 29, spent some time traveling the world full time and am now settled with three kids.
If you want to know more about me, this Business Insider profile tells the story pretty well.
I (rarely) blog at AdventuringAlong.com. Check out the Now page to see what I'm up to currently.

At least you started the thread,  you're off to a good start. Reward yourself with a coffee and a few hours of random internet browsing :)

I am afraid one day my children will ask me what it was like to live before reddit.

We tried to explain to our children what a pager was and just gave up. This really happened on Thursday. They couldn't fathom what life before cell phones was like.

I just found out that my friend's uncle still carries a pager daily. Apparently he can't have cell phones at work or something like that.

I carry a pager on the days/nights I'm on call (1 weekend a month, 1-2 days per week). I'd much rather have my pager be called then to have work call my (rarely turned on) cellphone. NO ONE except family has my cell phone number, and they know that it's rarely on!

Pagers (real pagers, not the cellular based ones) have one distinct advantage for the geek:  the TAP protocol.  You can dial up out of band with an old school modem and send a page.  Why is this important?  Well, if you're doing some sort of network monitoring and you find an anomaly -- you can dial out of band and send yourself a page.  Why wouldn't you just want to send it via something really cool like SNPP?  THE DAMN NETWORK IS DOWN!  YOU CANNOT SEND A PAGE TO SAY THE NETWORK IS DOWN USING THE NETWORK!  (I've tried to explain that to 3 different pager vendors that just could not understand.)

Because I tell myself that I will want to do later whatever it is I don't feel like doing now.

Realizing I won't want to do it later either actually helped me procrastinate a lot less (and I was pretty bad - I used to write essays in college that we were assigned a month in advance on the morning before they were due)

This guy explains it rather different, but its still pretty good: http://youarenotsosmart.com/2010/10/27/procrastination/

I'm proud that you started the list... maybe we can finish it up later.

On that note, here is a pie chart of procrastination...

I'm completely enjoying the humor in this thread and hate to ruin it with anything serious...

BUT... I've been listening to the iProcrastinate Podcast and it provides one more way to procrastinate while listening to research on procrastination. The podcasts are by Timothy Pychyl, a Canadian professor who researches procrastination. He talks about findings in the field about why we do it and strategies to overcome it. He's got a calming voice and so he's good to listen to when you're stressed out about the fact that you are procrastinating.

Believe it or not, this post and the whole idea "I am not going to want to do this later, either" helped me to get up and do some paperwork I am about a month late with.  thanks!
