To any Nintendo gamers
« on: February 11, 2015, 07:19:39 AM »
Hello to anyone who games using a DSi, 3DS, Wii or Wii U. Apparently Nintendo's reward program known as Club Nintendo is shutting down.

http://club2.nintendo.com/program-notice/

If you are a Nintendo gamer and don't know what this is, it's basically just a reward program that nets you free games or other items when you register new products you bought. I know a lot of people on here may not buy new games for consoles or portable systems, but if you do, your time is running out to cash in on your purchases. You have until the end of March to register stuff and then until June to redeem your points. Just thought I'd give a heads up in case you can snag a free game out of this.

Now, if you don't plan on doing anything with your products codes, you could always give them to me... ;-)

I still haven't beat Contra yet so I haven't moved past the NES.

I guess this is as good of a place as any to ask:  anyone who wants to get their a** beat in Smash Bros. 64, Melee, or Brawl, just let me know when you're in Indy.  ;)  I spent way too much time in college playing SSB64 (Fox or Ness).  I play Fox for Melee, and Wolf for Brawl.  Though it's not like most of the other characters are fun too, I generally am more effective with fast characters who have some quick strikes and a couple powerful smashes.  It's been FOREVER since I've played though.

That's a real bummer. My buddy and I register our stuff together and now I'm really sad.

Grid, I'll play you online on the new Smash4 if you want!

I just have the N64 and the Wii, so the 3 older versions are my only options.  Waa waa.  (I could buy a Wii U, but, you know, early retirement and such.)

Your name and avatar suggest otherwise, sir!

On a sort-of-related note, I picked up a used Wii U on Craigslist a few months ago and absolutely love it.  My wife and I have been playing Mario Kart and Super Mario 3D World a lot, and it's been a blast.

I haven't found anyone else who owns one yet, but it seems to have a ton of games that are just FUN.  More interesting titles compared to what I see out there for the PS4 or Xbox One, anyway.

That's because Nintendo stresses innovation rather than pouring out the same titles to make money. It's a shame that the big titles (Call of Duty, Halo, etc) sell much more than Nintendo's new games ever will.

Funny- because as a BIG nintendo fan, we haven't bought the Wii U because there doesn't seem to be many games for it.  We adored our GameCube and enjoyed our Wii- but there just isn't much for the U to make it worth it at all.

Although Nintendo is going to lose my brand loyalty if they keep coming out with a new hand-held every year or so and making it so that new games won't play on the old one.  The number of those in our house is just getting ridiculous.  The 3DS is way too new to already have a new system coming out...  It wouldn't be that annoying if they weren't so expensive.

Fair point.  I skipped the Wii generation, so my potential library is bigger as I am using the Wii U's backwards compatibility to catch up on some of the older games.  However, I've found a pretty good selection of new games to enjoy so far, including Mario Kart 8, Super Smash Bros, Bayonetta 2, Super Mario 3D World, Shovel Knight, and Wind Waker HD.

I'm also pretty pumped for the new Zelda/Star Fox, and Splatoon looks very interesting too.

The 3DS is an amazing system though. It's the best-selling handheld in the world - every kid in Japan has one. It's true that the WiiU doesn't have a great library, but the 3DS DEFINITELY does. Also the New 3DS XL isn't at all necessary. It has the C-stick and extra shoulder buttons for games like Monster Hunter. But they aren't necessary.

IMO Nintendo made a huge mistake by naming the next generation WiiU - too many folks think it's the same thing as a regular Wii when in fact it's on the same level as PS4 and Xbox One.

That's good to know- it looked like the games they released on it wouldn't work on the 3DS (which we have).

For now all it has is games that are optimized on the new one. It does have extra buttons but you can get that capability with a circle pad pro.

Not even thinking about getting the new one until a lot of great games show up!

Its 4 years old (It came out 8 months before the iPhone 4s), there is 1 game that anyone knows about that will only work on the New 3DS XL I think you're a bit too concerned over nothing.

Wow- didn't realize it had been that long.
Then again, I have an iPhone 4 (not a 4s)

I've been watching some speed gaming on YouTube. Players apparently spend hundreds, maybe thousands of hours finding the fastest way through a game such as Mario 64 and GoldenEye (Two of my favorite N64 games). They play for charity and get serious donations. It's really interesting to watch how dedicated these players are.

I do love Nintendo and played extensively with friends growing up, to about 15 years old. I haven't really played or bought anything since the N64. Games were truly works of art back then. Sure games today are good and the graphics are awesome, but back then it was all about content even when graphics weren't that good since the console couldn't support it. I still find it funny that games made 20-30 years ago, Mario, Metroid, Zelda, and many others are still being remade today. It seems like they can't top the best or make a new world famous character.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
