I'm not a sports fan and I haven't had cable for 20 years, but I found this interesting...

Good. But I'm skeptical.
I am a former teacher who accumulated a bunch of real estate, retired at 29, spent some time traveling the world full time and am now settled with three kids.
If you want to know more about me, this Business Insider profile tells the story pretty well.
I (rarely) blog at AdventuringAlong.com. Check out the Now page to see what I'm up to currently.

Live sports is the reason we still have cable (or FiOS, in our case). We are huge college basketball fans, and we're living 400 miles from our beloved teams, so we don't get games on local channels, like we would if we lived in market.

If someone offered me a way to have (that is, pay for) ESPN from November - April and cut it off (and not pay for it) for the rest of the year, I'd sign up right away!

Does anyone know if Sling TV is the game-changer it was touted to be?

yeah, the beginning of the article said something about mid-summer dip, so I am wondering if there will be an uptick in the fall when basketball football and baseball are all on.

also, check out the espn app, it is free through internet, easily works with our apple tv. every college football game but the ones on CBS are on it.

Interesting. I thought you had to be an ESPN subscriber to access games through Watch ESPN. When we had our Amazon Fire TV (two failed me within six months, so I'm currently between streaming devices), we had to sign in with our FiOS account to get Watch ESPN.

correction on my part. we used family members cable login to get "full" access.

We recently signed up for Sling TV and think it is great so far!  It is nice to be able to watch the live sports on ESPN and TNT plus most of the other channels offered are ones my wife and I will actually watch.  If you have a Roku they are currently having a 14 day free trial.
