Be a good citizen, preserve the night sky! Check out
Dark Sky, which seeks to restore our view of the heavens by encouraging local ordinances that limit lighting intensity and direction.
Minimize glare and obtrusive light by limiting outdoor lighting that is misdirected, excessive, or unnecessary
An LED sign would contribute to the light pollution that has taken away one of our most beautiful shared resources. No wonder society is going down the crapper when sign makers like New Style Signs replace the natural beauty of the Milky Way with an ugly orange haze.
It's also very unMustachian to get sucked in by
Jevon's paradox and leverage efficiency gains to increase your output. Talk about lifestyle inflation!
I recommend dumpster diving for plywood and making your sign yourself! Then light it using downward facing LEDs that you pull out of a broken appliance. You might not know about electronics yet, but that's no reason not to insource! Sign up for a free online class or follow an Instructable. Figure out the minimum number of LEDs required using science: you will need to research the details of visual acuity. Or just make the sign out of retroreflective paint, so that you don't even need a light source!
Good luck, Kri! Looking forward to hearing more about your restaurant and your journey to FI!
