Well they obviously have to come off for sex.  But otherwise they're fine, esp in the winter.
Only if they're "love socks" ;-). Something the OP, commander of a ship,  knows a bit too much about.

I hate you. This thread was going so well.

I was going to bet the mods would need to break up fights in this thread by page 3.  You two are early.

I pretty much always wear socks to bed. Sometimes not in midsummer. I agree with others that the sheets must be untucked for temperature regulation. I'm much more likely to stick my feet out the end of the sheets than take my socks off.

I always wear socks. All the time. Everywhere.

I only take my socks off when I shower. Then I put on new socks right after the shower.

I don't really need them to keep me warm, I just really love socks. They're probably my favorite article of clothing.

Lol. 😂

I'll convince you to love socks also...

And smartphones. :p

LOL! I told my DH this weekend that there was absolutely nothing more sad than a naked man with socks on. I stand by my statement.

Does anyone wear mittens to bed?

Regular bed?  No.

Freezing out in the tundra, bundled under every scrap of fabric and insulation available, teeth chattering and fearing my impending death by hypothermia?

Maybe.

Usually no, but I went camping in the snow last weekend and I might have slept better if I had!

I have 3 categories of socks. One is for exercising, one is for wearing around the house, and one is for wearing for the first few minutes while the bed is warming up. I never wear exercise or "around the house" socks to bed. I take those off, and put my bed socks on until the bed warms up. Then I kick them off to sleep. They're always waiting for me under the sheets when I go back to bed.

Bed socks are fluffy and very loose fitting. Exercise and "around the house" socks have too much elastic to be comfortable bed socks.

I would if they actually helped my feet get warm. In the winter I have to soak my feet in hot water until they warm up or I can't sleep. Socks don't seem to help unless my feet are already warm.

The only sock I could stand in bed is oversized wool socks, but even those get kicked off the end of the bed before I fall asleep.

I would choose socks over tight tucked sheets. Too tight sheets around the feet are evil.

Well one of my fluffy Christmas dog socks slipped off last night while sleeping and hasn't been found yet (oh the mysteries of bed sock and washing machine sock disappearances) so you can just half block me. Of course now I have house shoes on over my one sock foot and my sockless foot so am probably the worst offender ever!

Not unless I’m really cold and my feet won’t warm up otherwise…

Yes, for me to. Once in a while if really cold I will start out with socks at night but always end up flinging them off later.

Ha! It most certainly isn't. 40F at least. My issue is that I don't need another barrier to being able to get out of a sleeping bag in the morning to go pee. And peeing in my sleeping bag isn't ideal either. Also with where I live, any clothing I have is likely do be damp in the tent from the dew point in the morning. And putting on damp cold socks is super gross.

Interesting! I mean, I can understand things that touch intermittently would fall into that category like turtlenecks where a slight neck turn causes you to brush against it, but, I don't consciously realize I am wearing socks when I'm sitting still or even walking normally because it stays in place on me. Didn't know I was an abnormality (or an irredeemable monster :-) ).

Oh believe me we were barely 3 weeks past his death when we had another bulldog, a foster dog with us. Then a couple of months later we adopted a permanent bulldog. But only the special, ones get to sleep in the bed and this one is not that special.

Yes, actually a heightened sensitivity to various sensory stimuli is a common trait among autistic and other neurodivergent people. Discomfort wearing socks can be a part of that.

Changing my answer.

This thread got me thinking. I didn't used to need bed socks until the bed warmed up. Then I realized I forgot to change out our summer down comforter for our winter down comforter.

Made the change last night and was able to skip the socks and drop the night thermostat 2 more degrees - all thanks to OP!

I bought a cheap pack of microfiber towels for the garage. Advertised to do anything, especially polish shiny things like cars.

Nope. Dry skin + microfiber is alot like handling fiberglass insulation to me. Nope. When they are used up, it's back to the old terry towel train from the kitchen/bath to garage rag.

I think you're on to something. We need our law enforcement community to go into CEO bedrooms and check their feet every night. The business environment would improve immediately.

This sort of bedroom investigation sounds like it could lead to damaging public socks scandals.

ETA: Sorry for derailing the silliness of this thread.  It's just fascinating!

I am extremely aware of just about everything I wear at all times.

The problem worth socks under blankets is the friction between the blanket and the socks. If someone doesn't move much in bed, perhaps this is fine, but for someone who moves, the bedding is likely to have friction with the socks, which can then cause the socks to rotate on the feet, WHICH IS HORRIBLE!!!

I don't mind socks if I'm walking in sock feet or if they're secure in shoes, but under blankets, they can be exceptionally agitating. I'm on my sofa right now wearing socks under a throw blanket and whenever I move, I can feel my socks shift slightly and it enrages me.

It's actually so annoying that I will often keep my slippers on when I lounge on the sofa under a blanket, because the slippers don't shift due to blanket friction like the socks do.

A sock shifting in my foot while I'm wearing it is INFURIATING. I have some boots that cause my socks to shift while I'm walking in them and I will try a few pairs of socks to see if I can resolve the issue and if not, I donate them.

Shifting socks are a fucking nightmare for me.

Hence, no socks in bed.

Why would you move when you're in bed?  I lie down on my back and do my best mummy impersonation for most of the night.

My husband, on the other hand...this is why the sheets stay on the bed just fine when he's gone but it's a constant struggle when he's around.

What is this aversion to socks? I'm genuinely flummoxed. If it's cold I use them, if it's not, I don't. We keep the thermostat low enough in the winter that is generally cold enough. What on earth is the problem with that?!?

The touching. The problem is the touching of the feet. Full circumference touching.

But.... But..... But...... Your body doesn't adjust to the feeling? You continue to feel it...?
Yep. Lots of us continue to feel things. You're probably the odd one out here.
I can't stand turtlenecks (or anything touching my neck, really) or flip flops or high waisted pants or bras with wires in them either. N95 masks are pure torture.

I also notice my clothes all the time, even ef they aren't really uncomfortable or bothering me.

I've had winter boots like that. Socks completely ride down and get wadded up under my instep. Blech.

Why would you move when you're in bed? I lie down on my back and do my best mummy impersonation for most of the night.

My husband, on the other hand...this is why the sheets stay on the bed just fine when he's gone but it's a constant struggle when he's around.

I mean...good for you? Must be nice?? Lol

Why do I move? It's not a choice...

Oh, fair enough.  I tend to tweak my neck if I move.

Well they obviously have to come off for sex.  But otherwise they're fine, esp in the winter.

They come off so you can change into your slipper socks with the rubber soles, right? Pappa needs some traction. =P

And I tweak everything if I don't, lol

Isn't there a law about business leaders not wearing them in bed?
Socks compliance, or something like that.
I think you're on to something. We need our law enforcement community to go into CEO bedrooms and check their feet every night. The business environment would improve immediately.

This sort of bedroom investigation sounds like it could lead to damaging public socks scandals.

Or even worse, socks with sandals.  The CEOs wouldn't be de-feet-ed easily.

They would if they lived in sand-spur country.
