Slamming the toilet seat
« on: September 25, 2015, 11:11:56 AM »
I have a roommate who slams the toilet seat down after they are done using it.  I find this really strange and obnoxious from the other room, I don't understand how they can live with the noise of the slamming toilet seat.  I plan on getting a soft close toilet seat to prevent this in the future, as it's not worth breaking his habit over.  I mean, in a house of 5 dudes, I am not even sure why he is closing the seat anyhow.

I just have to ask, do any of you do this when you are closing the toilet?  Why? WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE!

A couple of rubber nubs will limit the noise significantly.

As for dudes putting the seat down afterwards, I can tell you that growing up I was required to put the seat down 1) to be respectful to the ladies in the house and 2) to cover the splash ring (no guy has perfect aim).  I constantly got yelled at and I would often times suggest that they should look down like I do when i have to do sitting business and make sure the seat is down.

It is so ingrained in me that no matter where I am I still do this - even a nasty ass mens public rest room that no lady will ever set foot in (of course I usually use my foot to put it down).  Any way it does make the ladies happy (never hear DW falling in during the wee wee hours of the night) and it does in fact look better for those times when the ring is less than sparkly.

Is it slamming or just letting it drop? Many people will simply flip the seat down with their foot rather than touch it with their hands.

A soft-close toilet seat is money well-spent. At least, that's what we learned after potty-trained a toddler while trying to get an infant to nap.

I have a slow-close lid in the room that I do most of my business in.  So when I'm in another bathroom, sometimes the lid slams shut.

My powder room on my main floor is up the stairs and directly in front of my front door.  So I like the lid closed all the time (and the door shut).  But guests invariably leave the door open, so I just hope they close the lid.
It's just not a good first impression from the front hall.
