Seasonal Cycle to my alcohol expenditures
« on: April 09, 2015, 10:58:22 AM »

I thought this was kind of interesting. Especially if you chop out the high outliers (vacations, stocking up on booze for a party, etc), there's a noticeable seasonal trend in my alcohol expenditures, with lows during the late summer, and highs during the winter / early spring.

Any one else see similar trends?

Yes, but mine coincide with trips to Costco.  Or rather I go to Costco when I need to stock up on da booze.
Usually opening day means a trip with only liquid purchases.

So why do you have a cycle?  You spend more time indoors, and therefore drink more during the winter?  You are more depressed during the winter and drown your sorrows in da booze?  Old man winter stops by for drinks often during the winter months?

This.

Avg temp for February 2015 according to my electric bill...7 degrees.  Oh yeah and the electric bill was $750 (baseboard electric resistance heat in CT?  WHYYY?), and my pipes froze because the garage got so cold, so we had to turn on the garage wall heater (hence the massive bill).

Fuck February.

OP,  I'm assuming you are drinking out a lot?  And probably crap craft beers?

It is a big chunk of change no matter how you slice it.

So in the last 6 months I have pretty successfully transitioned to a Vodka regime.    I buy the inexpensive quad or triple filtered stuff for about 6-7bucks a bottle or I also like Barton's 75 proof Long Island Iced Tea mixed with a splash of sweet and sour and coke.  So yeah, alcohol cost has gone to around $4 a week.

You should try it.  Vodka requires only a splash of water or if you want to get fancy add some ice and a twist of lemon or olives.   Cuts down significantly on the peeing as well.   If you don't feel too much like drinking but your friends do,   you can fake it with water and lemon.

If it is a bar spending habit it is simple enough to have one drink and stick with water the balance of the night.

Do what you like though.
